What would more ram do for my system? What does it do in general?
If I have 2 @4gb's and would like to go to 2 @8gb's would I see an advantage?
Also is anything required before and after the installation?
Running Windows 7 home premium with i5 2400 MoBo intel desktop board DH61BE.
I know google is my friend but I thought someone here could give more detailed advice.
Thanks, Vince

The video below is the general gist of it.

Now if you need a ram upgrade depends on how you use your computer. If you multitask a lot and than game on top, you might want to consider it. Just go into taskmanager and look at the percentage of memory utilized. If about 80% or more gets utilized I would consider adding more memory into the computer.

Personally I would advice something like the Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 16GB kit of 2. And then this kit to be exact: http://www.corsair.com/en/memory-by...-16gb-1600mhz-cl9-ddr3-cml16gx3m2a1600c9.html

That one has the lowest clock cycle ticks which means that it's faster (so ticks the CPU has to wait until it can do anything with the memory). It's low voltage means it's good for overclocking and doesn't run hot quickly. Plus it's below the recommended voltage specification of your Intel CPU (which has the controller for your memory build-in).

What it will do while gaming is that if you have a lot of apps open, the game doesn't have to wait until there is free memory again to store data. Thus there will be less frame rate drops and the image would be marginally more fluid.
I must warn that it's only most often seen when multi-tasking during normal PC use with memory heavy programs. For gaming the rewards are not as obvious unless you're really hitting the current memory usage limit.

What guy said with the video is good. Basically if you do lots of stuff at once you need more ram. Depending on how intense the programs you use are the more ram you need. If you are running chrome just reading articles you won't need much. However if you listening to music with iTunes while chrome is open with 15 tabs plus working on a few things in photoshop you are gonna need more ram. Windows 7 by itself takes a lot of ram to run so I would say 4gb is needed minimum and more like 8gb to really enjoy your time. Again it depends what you are doing. You know you need more ram when you aren't running too many programs or doing much and your computer starts running really slow.

Ok, thanks guys. I cancelled my 16 gig order. Just going to stick with 8.
