Random Failures

Since manfactures don't like showing damage to their precious cars, what if GT had random failures? Including: tire deflation, lost gear(s), burning oil, lost compression, bent wheels (resulting in vibrations), engine fires, and suspension collapse. I think it would be just as cool as crash damage. But then again, companies might worry about their reputation as "reliable". What do you think?

I think you hit it on the nose when you said that the companies would think that PD is showing the cars aren't reliable if they break down. There will always be something that the manufacturers don't like.

i think they should do like crash tests so they can get can analyse the data collected and put it on the game so youd be able to get real damage.

That is exactly how they would have to do it. The manufacturers don't want to provide cars for PD to destroy and I don't blame them. And I doubt PD would buy them all.

"We need the GTOne TS020 to wreck for a video game..." I don't think so.

I suppose you have a point.:D

besides Toyota would never lend the GTOne to crash test bcause there are only about 5-6 in the world!!

Damage would be a stupid thing to put in GT4. The last thing I want is to be at the end of an endurance race and have an engine fire.

Well that's what endurance races are about! I mean in real life 60 lap races are just standard races. In races like 24 hours at nurburgring or something the racer's car is a huge aspect of the race, whether it can or cannot take the intense race driving for 24 hours straight.

This can be (and has been) argued both ways.

Car damage and failure is part of racing in real life and it would make sense that it be included in the most realistic driving simulation.

However, damage is a hassle and would create serious frustration in endurance races. As for licensing, I think that PD, with so many manufacturers on board already, could license many with damage if they presented it as an all-or-nothing deal (you are either in with damage or out of the game completely). But, I don't claim to know the specifics.

My vote is for damage and failure...for reasons mentioned above.

But then you tack on the fact that computer games are made for entertainment - it's funny watching Schumacher's rear-left puncture, but it's not so funny when it happens to you, 1hr 57' into a Rome 2hr race.

Then there's sales - imagine the number of people who'd buy the game, then take it back...

I'm an idealist...I don't like to think of practical reasons why there should be no damage.;)

Well, of course I would want failures to be optional before races, and probably excluded in the "Easy" races, just like tire wear is. I would not want to get screwed out of a win, unless I chose that it could happen.

I'm up for tire failure, and the like

But damage would never work for the GT series

If you want damage go play your Burnout 2 or whatever
