Not always if you have a 1920x1980 screen. While the cars look nicer in 720p due to the increased AA, the backgrounds are noticeable more pixellated. I tried this on my TV and 1080p definitely looks more balanced. In general, it's best to select the native resolution of your screen.

Indeed. Some of the things mentioned are good and true, but this isn't.
It's the same with the RGB setting, of course it won't be so dark anymore, but you also sacrifice color depth and real black.

I don't think driving the Red Bull X2010 would ruin the game for me. I enjoy driving Polos and Fiat 500s just as much as LMPs, and everything else in between.

As for TVs, I agree with those who say it depends on your set. I play on a 42in Full LED 100Hz TV with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 and GT5 at night time to me looks glorious.

But you haven't said what your RGB setting is.

Awesome thread, I'v got used to freezing online in lobbys and I've figured out a few ways to avoid freezing.

Never enter a race that's currently under way.

If when you're in a lobby and a race starts and you're not in, and cant get in, exit.

Exit spectator mode before the end of a race.

Maybe its a bad connection on my end, I dont know? I have a nat2 connection. I imagine not everyone has to do these things but maybe it will help those who freeze online often.

Good job OP!

It takes me a few minutes to get over the X2010. I won the Vettel Challenge Dec. 10 so I've had it for a while. I do prefer the high end racing cars like the Sauber Benz because the X2010 has too much resistance to turn with the G25.

The 720/1080p thing depends on your TV. I have a 1080p front projector with a screen over 9 feet. For me 1080p was an obvious improvement, when I found out you have to go into the PS3 and turn it on every time they do a patch.

Pulling up the GT5 home page can be dog slow when online in the evening.

10. Red bull X2010 ruins the game

After getting and driving this car, everything else feels like a boat or tank. The game is instantly boring. Only use to for B-spec grinding, don't ever drive this or GT5 is over for you. Trust me...

LOL, made my day, thanks :)

Does anyone actually LIKE using the X2010? I mean, actually like driving it? I don't see the fun in it myself, most of the fun in driving any car is controlling it, getting the most out of it. I know you're technically doing the same with the X2010 but it's so fast and planted in an unrealistic way it just feels sterile. It may take skill to drive it fast, but that doesn't mean it's fun.

This is sooooooo true.

I mean I went to drive my 458 italia and it handles so bad compared to the X2010.

Im sure if I don't drive the x2010 for a week everything will feel normal, at least I hope it does if not bye bye X2010.

Totally disagree with 1 and 3.

Actually, I agree with 1... but you make it sound like user error. Full RGB should produce a better picture, Limited basically just removes tones/colours... with less blacks, the screen is obviously lighter, but you're losing image quality. It's entirely PD's fault if Full is too dark on peoples TVs.

3 is a matter of taste, the frame rate and tearing is pretty minimal if you ask me. 50% less pixels for 2-3 extra FPS? No thanks.

Good post though, it's all stuff people should know, even if it is subjective.

I am so glad the OP brought this up. My PS3 was set to limited HDMI RGB instead of Full by default. I changed it to full and WOW..........what a big difference!! The colors are so dark and rich that it's almost like the difference between hd and non hd except for color.

I went and raced 2 laps of Lemans with time change and it didn't seem much harder to see at night. Everything is just prettier.

TV is a Phillips 42" Plasma @ 1080i

9. Need that one car but can never find it in Used car dealer? No friends to trade or just don't trust others?

Use the birthday trick.
1. create new account with random email that you made up
2. enter birthday as current date and the year will be the year of the car that you want.
3. add your primary account as friend. log out
4. log in primary account, confirm friend, log out
5. enter game in your newly created account, use the birthday ticket to get car, gift it to your primary account.
6. delete secondary account and create a new one. repeat

the whole process takes about 5-10 minutes, keep creating account until you find the car you want and gift. You can only gift a car in 24 hours so make sure you find what you want before gifting or you'll need to wait another day. It took me 7 tries to get the 2J race car to win the historic race in B-spec. I also got a few other cool cars doing this.

You do not need to make another account, just delete the game save and restart the game. PSN is gonna get overloaded ooooooo noooooes :scared:

1. RGB settings

6. If you don't like all the loadings and waiting.

Upgrade your PS3's Hard drive to an SSD (Solid state drive) Hard drive. They might be expensive but definitely worth it because it cuts your loading time in half, less heat, less noise and last much longer. I'd recommend the 60GB SSD, it's the best price/capacity ratio. Look for a video comparison on YouTube showing you the speed different between a normal PS3 HDD and SSD HDD. If you are a true hardcore GT fan, I am sure you have already upgraded...

Implying you need to upgrade your HD in order to be a real GT fan. 👎👎

The RGB limited/full comment:

RBB limited displays levels from 16 to 245 or something like that. In fact, GAMES are desgined using RGB values from 0 to 255. Blu rays are not and are designed to use 16 to 245. In your ps3 menu, set the bluray output to Ycbcr as equally, many if not all films are recorded in this format, rather than RGB.

As for games, if your TV (yes, TV as well) can support RGB FULL, then set the PS3 to full. this will look the same as setting it to limited with a limited TV setting, but you will notice fuller blacks and better shadows. if you set the ps3 to full RGB, you will cause 'black crush' on your tv if it is set to limited.

I have a Toshiba RV635 and under HDMI options it allows for RGB FULL. so i set the ps3 to full and the blacks are excellent.

I just discovered something new (to me at least) about navigating my garage sorting lists, which are getting quite long.

If you press left and right instead of up and down the cursor will scroll much faster making finding cars much easier.

something that i think should be listed on your list, and i discovered in another thread; is that the ferrari f2007 and f2010 cannot be used in a-spec or b-spec. i havent bought them myself. now that im armed with this knowledge i will only buy them if i just so happen to have $10million and have already bought or won all the $20million cars. :( which will probably be never...

As I understood it, that option is to reinstall that large install offered at the beginning. Like if you delete your GT5 install data to open up HDD space, and want to reinstall it later. I never used it, though, so I don't know for sure.

Thank you.

X2010 really does kill the experience... Only remedy=slowly tone down... Go from the X2010, to the FGT, to a group C, to a super GT, to a Veyron, to a MP4, to a Viper, to an R34 to something real slow. Then you should be back to normal... Sorry for long post but this worked for me really well and I thought every 1 deserved to know
