My guess would be lots of heat and intolerable pain.

This is maybe teh beginning of Star Trek's "fazer" :sly: joke
ok, phazer then!!!huhu :irked:
System uses beam of electromagnetic energy to heat human
Active Denial Technology (ADT) provides an effective nonlethal active-response mechanism to disperse, disturb, distract, and establish the intent of intruders.

ADT emits a 95 GHz non-ionizing electromagnetic beam of energy that penetrates approximately 1/64 of an inch into human skin tissue, where nerve receptors are concentrated. Within seconds, the beam will heat the exposed skin tissue to a level where intolerable pain is experienced and natural defense mechanisms take over.

This intense heating sensation stops only if the individual moves out of the beam’s path or the beam is turned off. The sensation caused by the system has been described by test subjects as feeling like touching a hot frying pan or the intense radiant heat from a fire. Burn injury is prevented by limiting the beam’s intensity and duration.

its phazer! gah! anyways, this would be a very usefull tool for the rest of the world. that way all these serial killer could rot in jail instead of getting the easy way out by getting killed before they are captured. 👍

yeah, I could just imagine it " stand right there and let me shoot you with my ray gun we've never tested before." I would do it. :sly:

In some cities police being trained for riot squad duty are made to go in a building while tear gas is fired into it. Some even make them take a hit from a stun gun. I can only assume they will get this treatment too.

From what I hear the pain is equivelant to getting stabbed with a red hot poker, without the death. It supposedly leaves no permanent scarring either.

Sandia Labs also has a nice writeup on this system with pictures of smaller versions of the weapon."

I wonder if ray guns will one day be civilian issue. It would really be good if they were (and not for jackass stunts) We've all heard of people getting jail time for killing theifs that break into their houses, well with somehting like this, you could subdue the theif and have enough time to call the cops, and not get sued or jail time.

In our house, we already have a device that emits microwave radiation intended for civilian use... however, I tend to just cook potatoes and heat up my coffee with it...

They would still get sued for causing emotional stress or some BS like that, but I do see it eventually being available over time the same way stun guns are. They may want to have people register to own one though because I see way too many fraternity pranks on campuses.

Water balloons and water guns out of dorm windows are funny but a microwave ray gun could create a scare.

On that same note: it could be the next form of lazer tag or paintball.
