I'm looking to get a new headset, and I really like the look and features on the Razer Tiamat 7.1 headset.
In the past i've had great experiences with Razer products, and I hope this will be a good purchase.

- Has anyone tried it?
- Is it good? Well, obviously its good, but is it like worth $275-ish? (Prices in Norway)

Oh and no, I won't buy Turtle Beach and whatnot.

Please let me know if you got any pro's and con's on this product.

I did try it once, with a comrade, and it is truly great. If it was my money, I would probably get something a bit cheaper, maybe something from Creative or a Razer Carcharias. Obviously, not as good, but the Carcharias would do great too.

Also, the only cons I can see is that it's really expensive and it's not very portable.

5.1 headphones should be more than fine.

Are you after USB or 3.5mm jack type.

Well, the headset I have now (starting to fall apart), i've had since before CoD4 was released in 2007. It has served me many thousand(!) hours of gaming, watching movies and listening to music.

And that was only half the price of the Tiamat.
I can deal with it being expensive as i've not bought a headset in a long time, and it will only be used at home on the PC anyways.

But thanks for your opinion. :)

I don't really know.
Been using jack for years now, and I found it to be really good with no problems.
Maybe I should continue with the jack plug, but USB will do fine if it is as reliable and good as the 3.5mm jack.

Did you have a headset in mind?

Well with USB ones, they have their own sound card built in, which may mean you need the CD software to use the 7.1 or 5.1

My last one was a roccat Kave which was 5.1 and i liked it. it had 1 green(front) 3.5mm plug, 1 orange(center/sub) 3.5mm plug, 1 black(rear) 3.5mm plug and a USB plug which was used for power.

Wouldn't that be awful many wires to keep control of?

As I have it now its 1 wire with 3.5mm jack for the headset, and a other wire to the microphone.

If you don't want to hassle around with multiple wires, Razer Megalodon only has 1 USB cable (which I guess means virtual 7.1), but I don't have any personal experience on sound and build quality, because I would never spend that much money on a headset (I like my MDR-XD200 + ZM-MIC1 combo :)).

However it is much lighter than the Tiamat, but I would recommend to try before buying, if possible.

Wires go behind PC.

I used them as my main speakers at one point.

The weight will not be a problem, as the one I got now is quite heavy.

Will check out the Megalodon though, thanks for the suggestion. 👍

I guess.

Will check out some more reviews on USB vs 3.5mm jack plug.

After a sad funeral of my old steelseries headset, with 6 years and thousand of hours of service, I put my new G35 in and woooah!

It's alot better already (then the steelseries), and alot cheaper than the Razer Tiamat.

Thanks for your suggestions and opinion guys! 👍
