Sometimes I dont understand how some people have such good reaction time.

I know geography comes into play but there are some U.S. players that are insanely good.

I connect through WiFi on ATT Uverse that consistently gets at least 15mbps.

I have messed with controller config and know that its the same as some of the people i have ran with great reaction time.

It sucks sometimes that the person with a better reaction time wins. Sucks more when the tunes are really close.

The house was built for wireless so we only have 1 room to put the wireless router. I guess i can run a long LAN cable and see if there is a difference.

I would strongly recommend you try an Ethernet cable. If it's not practical long term then try a powerline adapter kit (homeplug) which is still quite a bit better than wireless 👍

A smaller tv will make response time faster not only for gt5 but any game and there's a little trick with the e-brake people use. Its when your launching from your e-brake but it doesn't show the e-brake sign i don't know if it really work but i tried it and it seemed to help me and of course connection plays a big role.

How do you do that? The analong sticks?

Most modern TVs have a game mode feature, that is what you should be using. Also download and upload speeds aren't that big of a factor but more so your ping. The lower the ping, the less lag. :)

LOL @ e-brake "tricks"

Put it to whatever feels best for you...

ISP connection lag, GT5 server lag, room lag because of other players with horrible connections, TV refresh rate, PS3 processing lag, and your natural reaction time delay. All things that can determine who get the jump on the ghost. Some people might see a ghost 2 tenths of a second later than someone else, and that's just enough to lose the race - even with a faster car.

Getting tired of people talking smack in laggy rooms because they aren't getting ghost lag. =\

True, but you can "supposedly" (I say this with a heavy feeling against) get it to disenage a fraction of a second faster if you use the R2/L2 buttons.

interesting thoughts, for awhile almost 80% of my controller were ebrakes lol

i am happy with using r2 as ebrake but it took time getting used to the different buttons like accel/brake, steering, rearview, etc...

i usually play on 2 tv's a 56" and a 32"

never thought about game mode. always wondered why have a different setting for games

I use a 48 inch plasma. Thanks for the idea about game mode! Might help pixel refresh and give me less lagg :D

yeah its news to me and reading up on it.

Why do HDTVs lag on video games?
HDTVs typically only have one or two "native" resolutions. A set's native resolution is the resolution that it displays on the screen. This means that sometimes, the HDTV must "scale" the resolution you input in order to display it.

On regular, non-HD televisions, there is only one native resolution, which is 480i (240p). Whenever you play a video game on a standard definition TV, the game console always outputs 480i/240p and the TV displays it as 480i/240p. No need for any scaling, so response time is always normal and accurate.

However, because HDTVs NEVER have 480i/240p (Standard Definition) and usually not even 480p (Enhanced Definition) as a native resolution, that means that any video game console we have that can't output a High Definition signal is likely to lag on any HDTV display. It isn't that it is impossible to scale an image with no lag; HDTVs simply put the emphasis on image quality, which takes some time to process, rather than speed. Some newer HDTVs now come equipped with a "Game Mode" to speed up the scaling process and reduce or eliminate lag on the set.

Mine is a 2010 model LG plasma couldn't tell you the actual name. I'm sure it has some game setting

That's my shift up and down

its my accelerator and brakes. i hold the brakes not the e-brake. i use L2 as my brakes and only hold it down so 1/4 of the red bar is filled on my brake meter.
