Gotta say this day is so annoying for me now. Just checked the BBC news website to see what was new since this morning and see the headline that Malcolm Glazer, owner of the US NFL team Tampa Bay Bucaneers, has finally achieved his goal of getting majority shares in Manchester United, making him the sole majority shareholder.
My opinions on this are so strong, as all i feel Glazer wants is to make a fast buck. Plunging Man Utd now into a £300m debt just because he couldn't back off, and had to borrow the money to purchase the club, which the fans will have to pay off. Well i hope this all backfires on him, and the fans fight this threat be not giving in to what he wants, the money.

Other people's opinions welcome.
 
I hope that the Man U fans just don't go to the games, that's the best thing they could do. Glazer is basically putting the club in debt, even though they are one of the few teams that have financial stablility. Unlike Chelsea who were on the verge of a Leeds like situation, after racking up some considerable debt.

Also, at least Roman has some interest in the sport and he's attended every Chelsea game. I doubt Glazer knows **** all about the sport, he just sees 'Worlds biggest sporting franchise' and wants in.

Plus he could also **** around with the TV rights to Man U games, separating them from the current Sky deal all the prem teams are currently on. Then that would lead to the other big clubs doing the same. Oh yes and don't forget about rising ticket prices.

Maybe the FA should impose a Salary/transfer cap in the premiership.
 
Well said Race Idiot, Man U are as stable as they come/ were as stable as they come and now Glazer has dumped a cart lode of ****e on us from a great height. Not good. Glazer's not in it for Man U's good at all, he's in it for his own gain. If that means him making a big profit then buggering off and leaving Man U in financial ruin, he wouldn't bat an eyelid.
 
It's a bit of a pane. He'll have to be transparent in all his business transactions.

Man Utd fans won't mind paying more for their tickets - they all earn good money in London don't you know.
 
As a Tampa Bay Bucs fan, I offer this forecast of the future of Man U under Glazer's ownership. He'll change the uniforms, get a new stadium built with taxpayer money, fire the coach and bring in someone else (hey, we thought Tony Dungy was irreplacable). They'll still do well the first year with the new coach (the Bucs won the Super Bowl), and you'll see a lot more bandwagon Man U fans (like they need any more of those...) However, he will then break up the team, selling off his high-priced players and getting rid of the other talent. Like the Bucs, they'll fall from the top and end up in the lower half of the standings.
 
We'll just see a breakaway team funded by the true man U fans. When Wimbledon were moving up to Mylton Keynes to form M.K. Dons (which was crazy). The fans started up a new A.F.C Wimbledon or something like that. Obviously A.F.C. are in a shabby league like the confrence and will take like 10 years to get to the big leagues.

And that as many know is taken from an untrue tale, theres a hell of a lot of Manu fansworldwide, but theres also more Man U fans in Manchester and Man C fans.

Anyhow, it's not like Glazers young is it, he probably won't be alive for that much longer.

Again, I can't see that happening seeing as they own the biggest stadium in the premier league (65,000) and they are extending it by filling in the corners.

More than possible, I can see that happening if they don't have any results. Or I can see Fergie leaving over a dispute, more than likely.

Again Man U can not be compared with that Tampa Bay team, seeing as he basically bought them when they were crap and invested allot of money into the team. Man U are pretty much the biggest sporting brand in the world and don't exactly have a barren trophy cabinate if you know what I mean.

I'd say the majority of Man U's fans are glory hunters, this is what happens when you start to win allot. It happened to Liverpool as well, when they were the dominant force in European football for a while in the 70's and 80's. I mean after Arsenal started being a major force in England i've noticed allot more Arsenal fans appear out of nowhere. Is the same with Chelsea too.

On another note, I was watching the Man U Chelsea match a few days ago and the Man U fans were chanting their usual stuff like 'You sold your house to the russians' well to be honest that makes me feel less sympathetic towards them.

Man U are going to be put into debt. Also I am a band wagon ist I admit. But I just laugh when my dad tells me that because he is exactly the same. He only supports Liverpool because they were teh best when he was young, and I support Man U because they were the best when I began getting interested in football.

A lass eh? Well wtf do chicks know about football? But yes Chelsea fans are now coming out of the woodwork. Amazingly I know someone who left Man U and supported West Ham because he was sick of the glory hunters.

In theory I should be a Spurs fan, I grew up in the area and my school was opposite White Heart lane. Also I grew up when Spurs were actually winning things. But I wasn't interested in football for a long time, well untill euro 96 and then I became interested in football. I think it was Chelseas Fa cup win in 97 that did it and I liked Zola allot. Still do really.

Ps, you never know West Hammersmith could be back in the Premiershp as long as they win their playoff match against, err Ipswitch I think.
 
Yeah, it's a common belief that thats the case, but it's not actually true. It came about because of the huge number of fans United has elsewhere. You ask 10 people on the Streets of Manchester 5 will support Man U, 4 Man C and the chances are the other will be a Liverpool fan. Theres a lot of Liverpudlians (not sure if I spelt that right) who work in Manchester, theres 6 or 7 in my office.

West Ham conceded two ugly goals,but we shouldstill be on our way to Cardiff. Yeah Zola was a great player. He could score free kicks, technical shots and basicaly cause mayhem in boxes. I still remember him turning Julian Dicks inside out and then outside in, one Saturday afternoon. :lol:
 
I should have put the smiley face before or after my little "forecast" of Man U's future. It was just a tongue-in-cheek idea from someone who has seen the Glazer's manage a team.

I can't help but think that some of the protests about Glazer's purchase of the team has to do with anti-Americanism. The fact that the biggest team in England was sold to a Yank is hard for many people to take. And even as an American, I can't argue with them. Let's say a Saudi oil company with little interest in baseball purchased the New York Yankees, the protests would be through the roof.

Nope, the protest is because Man U are/were a stable team, Glazer has come in and were in debt straight away. Glazer wouldn't be doing this if there was no profit for him, the ammount of debt he has to cover is stupid, Uniteds annual profits will only just pay off the interest, so wheres the money going to come from? Higher ticket prices maybe, a few stars sold perhaps, Ferguson could leave due to his stance on the takeover. None of which are good things for the club. I suppose their might be some anit-Americanism in there, but thered be strong protests no matter who it was buying the club.
 
At least RA has an interest in football, and has the money to back it up. The problem I see is that Glazer will build up Man Utd to win the league, maybe even champions league but then he'll sell all the good players leaving them mid table, just like he did with the Bucs.

Heck, why not? They're in enough debt as it is :rolleyes: And it's not like the other sharehodlers are going to make anything. No dividents and no choice on Man Utd's future.
