1991-1993 Mazda Familia GTAe

70c9535eb948cbad2b83771512fecf39.jpg

Body Style: 3-door hatchback
Engines: 1.8L BPD turbocharged inline-4
Power: 209hp
Torque: 184lb-ft
Weight: 1180kg
Transmission: 5-speed manual
Drivetrain: Front-engine, four-wheel drive

Additional information: Based on the Group A homologation special Familia GT-R, the GTAe is a stripped "rally-spec" version of the turbocharged Japanese hatchback, with close-ratio gears, a new larger rear wing, all of the power features removed (air-con was available as an option - ABS was removed), and the lighter cloth interior from the Familia GT-X instead of leather, as is standard in the GT-R.

2019+ Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy R

renault-megane-rs-trophy-r-main.jpg

Body Style: 5-door hatchback
Engines: 1.8L turbocharged inline-4
Power: 292hp
Torque: 310lb-ft
Weight: 1306kg
Transmission: 6-speed manual
Drivetrain: Front-engine, front-wheel-drive

Additional information: The hardest-core of all the hardcore RenaultSport Méganes, the Trophy R is a 500-unit special edition that recently set the lap record for front-wheel-drive vehicles at the Nurburgring Nordschliefe (because of course). Stripped out and with carbon fibre bits thrown everywhere that they can go, the Trophy R also comes with a rather exorbitant price tag to go along with its exorbitant performance.

Body Style: 5-passenger tourer
Engine: double acting 2-cylinder steam with 20" boiler

Power: 10 HP
Weight: 1,600 lbs (726 kg)
Transmission: N/A (Direct Drive)
Drive train: mid engine, rear-wheel drive

Stanley was well known for their ultra high speed cars. Stanley's were like the "super-cars" of their day in terms of performance thanks to the huge torque advantage that steam engines have over ICE. One of their cars clocked 126 miles per hour in 1906 and 150 miles per hour at Daytona Beach in 1907 when many cars struggled to reach even 25.
Stanley's most popular and best selling model however was the compact Model 63. It was a much more modest car compared to their performance record cars and it had a smaller boiler. But it still had a lot of torque and was quicker than many of it's competitors.
The car was somewhat affordable. $1,125 ($30,600 est. today) to be exact for the base price which was about the cost of a fully loaded Ford Model T Touring car.
The "Toy Tonneau" was the name of the Touring body style able to carry five passengers.
The Model 63 was could be driven at a consistent speed of about 40 MPH for about a half hour before the engine needed more water.

Nearly 100 polls after the revival, we finally get a nomination for the company with the most cars on the wall.

2001-2003 Renault Clio V6 Renault Sport (Phase 1)
DSC_0009-Copy-762x456.jpg

Body Style: 2-door hatchback
Engine: 2.9 liter ES9 V6
Power: 227 HP
Torque: 221 lb-ft
Weight: 1,355 kg
Transmission: 6-speed manual
Drivetrain: Mid-engine, rear-wheel drive
Additional Information: The Phase 1 Clio V6 was introduced in 2001 and is based on the second-generation Renault Clio, though it shares very few parts with that car. The Clio V6 was built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) in Uddevalla, Sweden. The Clio V6 used an ES9 V6 engine sourced from the PSA Group and was upgraded to about 230 HP for the car. In order to accommodate the radical change between the FF hatchback and the MR two-seater, the car had to be extensively reworked structurally, thus giving the Clio V6 a vastly different driving experience from the normal Clio. 1,513 Phase 1 Clio V6s were produced from 2001 to 2003.

Alright my poll didn't go up yet, but it will before GranTurNismo sees this post.

does the "the car must actually be something you can go into a dealership and buy before it can be polled" rule still apply?

I think it was agreed before that pre-production prototypes count as "concepts" rather than production cars until the car is actually on owner's driveways?

I’ll allow pre-production cars, as long as most of the specs required can be found. I see no issue with allowing a car like the Mustang electric thingy being nominated in two weeks despite it not being produced for a while.

The Chrysler 300 letter series cars from the late 50s and early 60s as a whole are way too diverse to make into one nomination. So I'll just do my favorite one of them. Chrysler needs a win.

1960 Chrysler 300F

Body Style: 2dr Coupe, 2dr convertible
Engine: 6.8L V8
Power: 375-400 hp

Additional Info: Production is 969 coupes and 248 convertibles - Only 15 believed to have been produced with the French manual (which was built for Facel Vega, who used the same engine), and only 4 are still accounted for - Swivelling front seats were standard equipment - Special "cross-ram" intake manifold to increase power at lower rpms - The 300F was the first 300 letter series car to be unibody

Apologies for no cool wall polls recently, I've had no power at my house for the last four days. Cool Wall schedule is back to normal as of now.

A quick announcement: I've (finally) created a dedicated sub-forum for all the "Cool Wall" threads, including this thread and the Results thread.

This should make things a lot more organized and will prevent disrupting the rest of the Cars in General forum. 👍

Jordan... you're a G. This was a day I never saw coming, and as the curator of the Cool Wall, this means so much to me. Thanks man!

Announcement: Due to the cool wall receiving its own sub-forum, and since there is no longer worry about Wall threads "clogging up" the Cars in General forum, polls will now be up once a day instead of once every two days.

I’d still recommend doing it every other day because the Cool Wall will eventually run dry of polls if you do it that way.

That's true, though there are still thousands of worthwhile cars that haven't been nominated.

I'll keep the Wall at once every other day for the rest of this week, and after that point (based on activity) I'll see whether or not I want to make it once a day or keep it twice a day.

Power: 65 HP
Weight: 2,310 lbs (1,048 kg)

Transmission: 3-speed sliding gear

Drive train: front engine, rear-wheel drive

Ford's Model A was a great success considering the hardships of the Great Depression. But by the early 1930's, many lower priced car makers started producing inexpensive cars with larger and more powerful engines.
Ford was falling behind in terms of technology and styling of their cars. The Model A was more of a refined Model T. Chevrolet as well as other lower priced competitors had much better performing straight-6s compared to Ford's aging 4-cylinder.
Ford built a brand new car for 1932. Not only was the car more stylish and contemporary looking, it was available with Ford's all new flathead-V8 for the Model 18. It changed the world. It was the first affordable and mass produced V8 powered car. It was considered high performance for the time. Combining it's great performance and the car's handsome styling, the 1932 Ford soon became the pioneer of hot rodding and street racing with young Americans soon after WWII. The 1932 Ford had started America's love for the V8 and has shaped American car culture forever.

Body Style: coupé
Engine: 4.0L straight-6 “hemi”
Power: 140 hp
Transmission: 4-speed pre selector
Drivetrain: front engine, rear-wheel drive
Weight: 2624 lbs. (1190 kg.)

When Talbot created their T150 chassis, many different coach builders got their hands on them. The T150 was high performance for the time. It’s powerful inline six engine with hemispherical heads allowed the cars to easily reach 100 mph. The short wheelbase version was dubbed the C SS. The “C” in the name stood for Competition and the “SS” stood for Super Sport.
Many were bodied by Figoni et Falaschi, one of the most well known coach builders for creating some of the most breathtaking automotive designs. Although there were a few different styles by them, twelve of which were built as the iconic “New York Style” Teardrop Coupé. Each can with that body cost about $57,000 when new. One of which raced at the 1939 24 Hours of Le Mans.
It was one of the most state of the art designs of the time. Where most cars still had running boards and squared edges, the Teardrop Coupé as well as many other Figoni et Falaschi designs didn’t have none of that. Considered by many as one of the most beautiful cars in the world, the T150 Teardrop has become a very highly sought after collectible and is an icon of art-deco design.
