Many A-Spec events are like mini versions of some real life race series. (Endurance events, of course, are just as long as their real life counterparts.) Here's a list of A-Spec events along with the wikipedia links of their real life counterparts. I've chosen to use the link of the latest season of each event, so it'll be easy to know which cars and tracks are generally used for these events.
Expert Series
Gran Turismo All Stars - World Sports Prototype Championship (80s- 90s)
Extreme Series
NASCAR Series - NASCAR Sprint Cup
DTM Championship - Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters
Super GT - Super GT
Formula GT - Formula One
Dream Car Championship - Le Mans Series
Endurance Series
Nürburgring 4-Hour - VLN Series
24 Hours of Le Mans - 24 Hours of Le Mans
24 Hours of Nürburgring - 24 Hours of Nürburgring
A-Spec, in my opinion, gives a nice sampling of many major motorsport events. Of course, the A-Spec rewards are a joke but it certainly is fun to redo some of these events with different cars of the same genre. If you know of probable real-life counterparts of A-Spec events not listed above, do let me know and I'll update this post.
