DO NOT do full bore (as in dial up 6000rpm and dump the clutch) starts in your manual transmission AWD car.

The car will not wheelspin and instead all the slip goes through the clutch.

I tried one the other night on a wet road in my RX Liberty (Legacy) and it took about an hour of driving around to get the smell of burnt clutch out of the car before going home where the girlfriend could ask awkward questions. And it still smelt odd in the morning.

Did take off rather smartly though.

I WILL NOT be attempting this again. Ever (unless it's someone else's car).

I love AWD cars...:cry::D

They're launches are sooo impressive...*drool*

A friend of mine has a '93 Eagle Talon TSi AWD turbo, and that thing is very quick off the line.:eek:

Sorry to hear your stuff smelled like burnt clutch...:nervous: Me & my friends have never had that problem, and we all love to rev 'em high & dump the clutch...:p I dump mine anywhere from 6-8300rpm a couple times a day, and I've never smelled burnt clutch:confused: The friend with the Talon keeps his revs about 4-500 below redline when he launches, and I've never smelled burnt clutch...:nervous::confused:

Anyways, I hope it didn't hurt your clutch at all...;)

Has anyone here ever seen an AWD burnout?:confused:
There's a kid that works at Car Toys(Tulsa, OK/ on 68th & Memorial) with a '90-'93 Eagle Talon TSI AWD turbo with an 18g turbo, 200hp shot of nitrous oxide, and a bunch of other crap and he has a video of his car smoking all 4 tires...:eek: All he did was go in reverse about 7mph, then he put it in 1st, revved up to like 7,000rpms, dumped the clutch, and all 4 tires started spinning & smoking. I've never seen anything like it before...:eek: (BMW///M3, go look at that kids video!!!:D)

Nah - the clutch is fine. Probably taken about 5000kmh off the life of it, though. Oh well, next owner's problem....

Just a function of tyres having more grip than the clutch, I think.
