I've decided to revive the old GT5 replicas that I used to do along with several other forum goers. Basically, what it boils down to is tuning cars and dragging them on a budget, much like most people do in real life on weekends. Nothing more than maybe a set of 4.11 gears, a swapped in 5 speed, a pair of headers, intake, and street radials. I like to do this for the simple fact that it's similar to real life, and literally everyone "top notch" tunes these days. Plus, it's fun to replicate cars you either can't afford in real life, or can't have in general, as well as sort of seeing what small change would do to a car, as well as having access to cars that aren't even in the game (see 1969 Camaro ZL1).

The requirements basically boil down to replicas and minor mods. Nothing you can't buy on a budget in real life. Here is a brief overview. If you have any other questions, please ask.

2.png

Cars: Cars useable are not restricted, however they must fall into the sub categories below, which restricts them.

Transmissions: Gear ratios must be identical to that of the real thing, as you'll see below. For example, lets say you have a small block Ford in your Mustang, and you are looking to swap in an automatic transmission. The most viable option is a C4 or C6 transmission (they use the same ratios). These ratios are provided for you later on in this post. You'll need to purchase a custom transmission to be able to input them. You are only allowed to use those gears though, despite it being a 5/6 speed custom transmission. If you only have 3 gears, you can only use 3 gears. Manuals are the same deal. However, in the 1/4 mile, you won't use anymore than those 3 or 4 gears anyway. Also, absolutely no custom drag tuning allowed like we would normally do, under any circumstances.

Suspension: Suspension tuning can be allowed if you run by me what it is you are doing. For example, some cars I have use real life front wheel alignment specs. If you don't inform me of your plans, all suspension tuning is prohibited.

Engines: Please, nothing extreme. Intake, exhaust, headers...bolt on kind of stuff you'd generally find on street cars. I don't want to be seeing 500+ horsepower big blocks ripping down the track. Small blocks should generally be seeing around the 300-350hp range, though higher if you have a high weight in order to keep up, and big blocks around 375-450 or so. 430 horsepower seems to be the general range.

Rear Axles: This is the final gear in the transmission setup. When someone says "oh I have 3.73's or 4.10s"...this is where that goes. You'll find a list of common ratios further down in the post. The higher the number, the faster the acceleration, but loss of top end.

Weight Reduction: All weight reduction is prohibited unless used on an absurdly heavy car to allow it to keep up with the competition. Generally, only Stage 1 weight reduction and window/carbon hood is allowed on the heaviest of cars.

Tires: Limited to Sports Softs/Racing Hard (per class) on the rear tires only. No comfort tires in the front, we aren't running "skinny's" on these cars. Racing hard's are like slicks you can buy like in real life, but only on race day. During cruises, these are prohibited. You are only allowed slicks if the car is making near 450hp in order to retain traction, but you need to apply for the slick tires class. You'll find these classes later on in the post with their limits and regulations. You will need to feather the throttle like real life upon launch. A burnout is pretty much a given in order to heat them up for better traction.

Special Cars: Cars such as the 1973 Chevy Pozzi Camaro RS, the Trans Cammer Mustang and the Red Devil Camaro are legal if the horsepower is restricted to normal V8 levels. They can be made quite competitive.

Confirmation: You are required to confirm the tune with me so I can make sure specs match the general feel of the room before racing the car.

Theme: Depending on how the room progresses, there may or may not be a general theme. Themes can vary, from muscle cars to super cars.

Tracks: The main track we race on is the Indianapolis circuit, specifically the "Road Course" variant. I am currently considering other tracks and layouts for a more varied set of rooms. Comments on this subject are appreciated.

General Courtesy Rules: General courtesy rules must be applied at all times. You must used proper grammar, you must follow GTPlanet's very own AUP, you must actively join lobbies, you must ignore a banned member until action is taken, you must read through this post entirely, and you must not provoke arguments.

Season Schedule: Each week we have a main event on Saturday night at 8PM EST. This is a fixed date and time, and will not change unless I become unavailable. Should such an event take place, the weekend event will be rescheduled for some time during the following week, still at 8PM EST. Each event follows a various theme, which you can find next to the respective date. During the week, there will be random lobbies that open, so take advantage of this and get your cars ready for the main event that weekend. Keep an eye open for those lobbies, as their room numbers will be posted in the replies below by various members.

Weekly Memo: Each week a newsletter will be sent out via private message on the boards here to all the members of the league, consisting of general and most recent news from the league. It will contain various changes that have been made, updates to this post, a heads up on the upcoming main event so you can prepare, special offers, competition news, and various other items such as photos from events and/or cars that have been the quickest in events and car tuning suggestions. By joining the league, you automatically subscribe to the weekly newsletter. You can, however, opt out if you so choose.

Last But Not Least: If you are interested in participating, please reply below, or private message me. Applications are not required for this league, however you must participate on a regular basis in order to stay in the league. Thanks!

Failure to comply with the rules and regulations will result in a kick from the current lobby. If it is continued, a temporary ban consisting of a three lobby ban will be issued, as well as being prohibited from posting in this thread. If the issue persists, a permanent, full ban from the league will result as well as getting the staff on GTPlanet involved.

I am compiling a list of some of the most common transmission ratios out there, most of them being all the ones offered from their respective factories. Most of these are factory 3 and 4 speeds, but have include many aftermarket ones as well. Many thanks go out to all who have contributed to this ever growing list, and I hope it continues to grow.

I like this idea, I never had the chance to do this before, the fact that you can de-tune back to stock weight should make this type of racing more popular. In GT5 a few folks didn't want to go buy another car just to do this.

I'm in for Chevy night, I'll be bringing my z28 replica of my 94 camaro, I've always wanted to do that. One question thought slash, the grip with sports softs is a whole lot less than normal drag radials IRL.

I know. The point being most people run street tires in real life if they arent a series racer so that was the idea behind it.

Any idea how your going go set it up? I'm only going to have 325 ish hp which seems like I'm going to get run over by much faster cars.

We also ran a test (Dom confirmed it in gt5) that cars run with those tires had times the most similar to regular street cars IE the ZR1

Yeah, I think I am going to have different types of street classes. Small blocks with 250hp, 300 and 350, then big blocks etc. Cars will be listed that can be used per class for the most part. Small blocks with big block power can also be used but need to be entered in a different class..we will be having car entries during the week prior to the event. I was mainly going for anything goes as long as they stay realistic. Nothing absurd. I have a few low HP cars I'm going to run with nothing more than a set of gears and maybe headers.

@KTalloutdrags

It's similar here. Street tires and 1,500kg cars with gears and 350hp are trapping about 110 mph tops which is about right.

My street Nova is set up like this:

Sports Softs
441hp (Exhaust mods only, pretty much standard IRL)
Muncie M22 4 Speed Transmission
4.56 Gears

Consistently traps 109-110mph.

They trap about the same as the low HP cars, they just get there quicker.

Sounds like a lot of fun, but before I spend my time building a rig, what time will these events take place? I'd love to join if possible!

I haven't got a set time yet, likely around 10pm EST, maybe earlier. Time is really up in the air right now.

The Nova isn't any faster than the rest of them when you take away all the variables.

Definitely quick ill give it that. But like anything else it will go fast if you throw money at it.

I like the tire idea but I chose sort soft tires because they are a bit more realistic. I have a hard enough time hooking up with them so you'll go nowhere on sh ones.

I have a nice little drag setup on my street gt350 :). Ford Toploader 4 speed, 4.56 rear, rear slicks and 428hp traps a speedy 120mph and wastes no time getting there. Fun little car, and I even left the pinstripe tires on the front to make it look like a cheap Saturday night car.

What about imports, where I live Firebird Raceway use to run a Domestic vs Import night so basically tuner cars vs Muscle. Should have one of those.

Rear slicks? LOL Create a room and I'll join you, buying some cars now.

Import vs muscle is good idea actually.

Yeah I did it based on some stuff I saw at that track. Join me ill make a room right now.

I like that idea!!! I will ad it to the schedule tomorrow morning.

Now we're talking! Count me in! 👍

EDIT: Uhm... it's not possible to replicate real gear ratios? Trying to make a Muncie M22 for my Nova, but can't...

EDIT: Never mind, I got it, lol.

You could also use an A-833 4-Speed ? But it might be over powerd with it

here is all the gear ratios for it:

Not a big fan of the 727 trans... Don't like 3 speeds. Was a fun room though! Fast camaro besides just now realized this, stock suspension is no where near stock on the camaro. Thats why it was gripping up so well.

O/D VERSION-----3.09-------1.67-------1.00-------0.73

Also does a Posi make a difference now?

Thanks for that, I think a 4 speed will fair better unless you have absurd levels of power.

As far as I know, they are all POSI, though in GT5 some seemed to have a locker.

Not a big fan of the 727 trans... Don't like 3 speeds. Was a fun room though! Fast camaro besides just now realized this, stock suspension is no where near stock on the camaro. Thats why it was gripping up so well.

I haven't used Ford C series transmissions yet but they have done well before, and they are 3 speeds.

The suspension I have on it is stock IIRC. I never bought anything for it.

I'm going to make a list of transmission ratios and final gears so everything has something to pick from. Might make it a little bit easier.

I'm interested. 10pm might be a problem cause I wake up at 2am to got to work but I can probably take a nap or something. Quick question though. I noticed that its mainly old school cars. With the addition of "tuners", will new Muscle be allowed?
Also I know I'm getting ahead of things but what class of tuners will be allowed and what tires?

I looked at Mark Williams gears for the rear end. Hope that's ok?

This is just me, but I actually think that the strict car selection is a good idea. New muscle cars would be cool I guess though, but tuners? Not so much. They can have a tournament of their own.

That's why I'm not set on a time yet, I really don't know. Start throwing times at me and the most common time will get picked.

Yes new cars are allowed but you'll have to find specs on your own.

@Strittan

Yes that is fine. That's the idea actually. If it helps I am slowly filling in make specific information to the OP.

Awesome! Glad to have you onboard.

EDIT

If anyone wants me to open a room just ask. I'm home all day doing nothing.
