Thanks to asdfg11 for the countdown timer!

General Info About Races: Our goal is to provide a racing simulation experience for everyone. Real off-road grip, weak slipstream, tire wear on, and yes, heavy damage! ABS is optional.

The potential for damage encourages respect and sportsmanship among everyone, making penalties unnecessary -- GT5's penalty system is easily gamed, often penalizes the victim and does nothing to further the "racing simulation".

The races are usually long enough to require at least one pit for tires and/or gas depending on the car. We also enjoy racing real life cars, and offer a wide range of racing experiences, from VW Buses to F1's, some tuned, some untuned, you name it. Feel free to check out the Facebook page ( http://tinyurl.com/GT5-LPP ) to post race suggestions and say hello!

From "Recommended List"
Racing medium tires maximum

You must pit at least once before the race timer reaches 55 minutes

  • Standard race quality
  • Standard microphone quality
  • Collisions on
  • Heavy damage
  • No penalties
  • Weak slipstream
  • Tire wear/Fuel consumption on "Normal"
  • Real grip reduction on wet/edge
  • Visual damage on
  • ABS available
  • Traction control available
  • All other assists off
Qualifying & Rolling Starts:
  • Qualifying begins promptly at 9:00 PM Eastern (refer to the countdown timer above if you're not on the east coast) and will last 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Qualifying will have collisions off and be on light damage.
  • When you have a time you like, pull over to a secluded spot or drive into the pits, while we record your time. If you are unable to complete a qualifying lap in the time allotted, or if you leave or exit the track before we record your lap time, you will start at the back of the pack.
  • If lap times are not registering properly on my screen, I will tell everyone to keep track of their lap times.
  • At the start of the race, drivers will manually line up in formation for a ROLLING START. When the race timer counts down, and the race START message appears, DO NOT MOVE. Stay in the starting grid until the starting line up is called out.
  • We will manually line up in qualifying order. Once everyone is in the correct order, the driver in the pole position will set a pace not exceeding 60 MPH / 96 KPH, and begin the race by breaking that pace. Please do not overtake other drivers until the pole/pace car breaks pace and begins accelerating to race speed. Then, THE RACE IS ON.
Full Course Caution Until Clean Start:
  • This policy applies until we complete one continuous clean lap or two continuous minutes of clean racing on longer courses, without multi-car incidents. Cautions will only be available at the beginning of the race. We will repeat it as many times as necessary to get an incident free start.
  • If there are any multi-car incidents, where any driver is knocked well off the track by another driver, we will call a FULL COURSE CAUTION. The policy does not apply to individual drivers losing control, even if an offending driver has minor contact with other drivers who continue racing.
  • Once a caution is issued, please do not overtake any drivers, even if you are heading to the pits.
  • All drivers (not in the pits) will form-up for another Manual Rolling Start behind the current race leader, who will maintain pace speed until everyone is in formation again, and restart according the approach used at the beginning of the race.
Prizes:
  • First place (Level 19 car ticket, 5 car paints)
  • Second place (5 car paints)
Other Notes: The GTPlanet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines applies with some changes/additions.
  1. Bump drafting is allowed where it makes sense.
  2. Keep racing on the track, regardless of incident, unless cars behind you are approaching. Time, depending on severity of incident, will be added to your final race time once complaints are filed and replays checked. If you decide to allow the other driver(s) to pass because of a collision, be absolutely sure that you will not be in the way of other drivers. When in doubt, keep racing.
  3. Drivers that are to be lapped are under no obligations to move out of the way, as long as they are not intentionally blocking. Most tracks have many sections to overtake. If you're faster, you'll find a way to pass.
  4. There will be no race restarts for people that disconnect, unless something extreme happens like half the room disconnects at the same time. Common sense will dictate what's appropriate. People that disconnect will still earn points (where applicable) depending on when they disconnected.
  5. Anyone found violating the car regulations will be harshly penalized, i.e. dropped into last place in the race results. "I didn't know" is not a valid reason.
  6. Track boundaries are generally the same as those enforced by the GT5 penalty system and as defined by section 16: Offline Racing in the GTPlanet Online Racing Rules linked above. See the illustration below. Occasional unintended infractions will be tolerated, particularly if you visibly attempt to correct a bad line by braking, etc. or you have lost control of your vehicle. Patterns of abuse will not be tolerated, and complaints will be investigated as noted in #2 above.

YouTube video to see how to get the "Recommended List" Zonda or select the RECOMMENDED tab from the online garage (thanks Kirk).

Don't forget Traction Control is allowed in this race.

You are welcome, but I did not supply the video. I only offered clarifications, which I will repeat...

You do not have to restrict the room to the Zonda, unless you want to. You can just go straight to the garage and instead of premium, standard or favorites -- click the Recommended tab. Zonda will be top of the list if sorted by PP. You can't restrict the room if you want access to the entire Recommended list in the Garage.

You can also get to the Recommended list cars in the Arcade, but they are under the heading Arcade Only instead of "Recommended". This is the only offline option, as there is no way to use it in Practice.

Should be fun. Just hope I'm not too burned out from my F1 race like usual. 2 70 plus minute races in a day, with hour and a half of practice and qualifying each takes its toll on my lazy a$$.

haha, good luck with your other race. Hope to see you tomorrow

I have one suggestion that may seem out of character for me. However, given the nature of the track (Spa) and the power of these cars -- for qualifying ONLY -- I am inclined to think we should turn on penalties.

Since collisions are off during qualifying, we are not really in full Simulation mode anyway, and there is no way to fully audit qualifying laps for the whole field. It will also serve as a gentle reminder where the track boundaries are, and that you should avoid straying too far beyond those limits during the race. While our leaque is fairly tolerant, we should try to head off any bad habits developing.

Just a suggestion. :)

Update on My Cable/Broadband
A young but knowledgeable cable guy came out yesterday morning. Once he dispensed with the basic check out, he pretty quickly came to realize that I had solid connections, up-to-date equipment and that I seemed to know what the frack I was doiing, he got out his notebook and started perusing network stability and utilization for my cable modem and my neighborhood in general, dropping IPs etc.

It all checked out clean, except one major problem. Total utilization for my neighborhood is running consistently at 80 to 90%. He said that their standard is to keep it in the 40% range or maybe as high as 60% for a larger development like ours.

So he calls Time Warner (bought out Insight recently) head office to confirm his finding and see if our neighborhood is already on some sort of Network Issues Tracker. The head office confirmed that our network is overloaded and added me (us) to their Issues Tracker.

I asked him to verify that my line was still on a direct port instead of splitter at the main box, and he confirmed that was still okay, but that he was also turning in a ticket to add more ports and remove splitters from our local junction box.

At the end, he said it could take a couple of weeks to get the neighborhood upgraded to get overall utilization percentages back in line, but all of my neighbors will also benefit. He said they would keep me advised and gave me a business card for his boss.

An actual human that I can call... Holy Shibits!

Penalties for qualifying is fine by me.

Glad to hear you're making progress with your network.

"Weak" should be sufficient.

Note that it is particularly strict at the top of the hill at Eau Rouge, and strangely lax in other places... just one of the many reasons I don't like the penalty system.

Too bad we can't paint our Zonda's, the interior changes color with it.

Not sure what happened to alefin. It was the first time I had to officiate in perhaps 8 or 9 months -- first time since we started the new qualifying regemin.

While I am disappointed at the early departures from the room, and always ENCOURAGE everyone to stick with it until the END in our endurance races, I understand that this is a very difficult car, if you are not prepared. There was talk of it being a practical joke, given that alefin was a no show, but I checked, and he did not post it on April 1st :)

I am not sure what happened to Cam. He was winning; Brad and Ty quit. Ty stayed and watched for a while. roadsinlife had an emergency (fire alarm in the dorm) about 10 minutes into qualifying and was not able to start.

Also, I should have set the laps for 30 instead of 32, and it ran a few minutes long.

Sorry about the no-show, guys. Had a medical emergency and couldn't make it. Thanks for picking up the slack, Kirk. I hope I didn't cause too much trouble/confusion. Wanted to race with something like the Zonda. Bah

Bummer dude. I figured it had to be something serious or urgent not to get any heads-up. I hope all is well. I delayed the start of qualifying 10 minutes, just in case you were a little late. Everyone seemed glad to have time for practice.

I was a little rusty, but it all came off largely without a hitch. Everyone was patient. Hugo already had your room partially set-up when I got there (was glad not to be the first in the room). I guess he originally set the laps to 33, and I dropped it by only one lap when we started seeing times in the 2:12 range. I should have dropped it to 30.

I think my only other error was setting grip reduction to "low" during qualifying, but since penalties were ON for qualifying, no one would have gotten a good lap with much off-track activity anyway.

Sorry we missed you. Hope you are doing well.
