Really cool idea for GT5

I think that it would be awesome if for GT5, they had a drive around world map, like NFS:U2 does for the races, but with traffic and the such...thats just me.

Now taking into consideration that the game is a Simulation game, what would be cool is if you had to gas up your cars and pay for it b4 every race or you would have what you ended the last race/practice/test drive with. Also, alot more stuff like in Forza, how your engine can crap out and tranny and the such, but to the point that you need to do a motor swap, OR a junkyard where you can buy used parts for that car, they will be cheaper than buying new from the dealer, but they will be less quality. And to add to the realism, if you have a stock car, or you buy something like an Evo and you slap on a Stage 4 turbo kit, if you rev too high, you blow your motor, or if you launch too much w/o a reinforced tranny..you blow the tranny. I just thought that some of this would add to the realism/simulation factor of the game.

that is a good idea, but i thought company sponsors you to race. And i dun dink a GT car will be legal on the street. Like those high power GT

A free-roam map would be the ultimate essence of "grand touring". But picking races on the streets... naaaah.

GT isn't a street racing game. I don't think GT needs to enter into illegal street racing crap to entice morons who like chromies, neons and cut springs.

I have always wondered about that aswell, i don't know about your motor blowing and stuff but engine swaps would be cool. I would want the free drive places to be like real life, meaning most cars are just average. But then you know you see the odd porsche or gt-r, then you blow them away with whatever car you have. And it would be cool if you could drive to the dealerships or whatever and actually go to their showrooms, like you walk around and zoom into stuff aswell.

Moving this to the 'Gran Turismo 5' section

If they had a sim that I could do a cross-country run (complete with checking into motels... SAVE option ...at night), then I'm all for it... don't think it'll ever happen, but I am.

The only good thing that would be good for is in the rally stages, since the Rally drivers have to drive on the roads to each stages.

i think a realy cool idear for gt5 would be if you could have a team with pit crew that you could hire and fire ect... also i think they should bring back racing modifications like you could get in gt1 and 2

^ Hey, you should read some of my posts covering that idea, it'd be a nice addition.

On the dea of a world map you drive around, no, we don't need it. Think about it, racing teams don't drive to the local shops to buy a new turbo and gearbox for their car, they order them. Also you don't go to a petrol station a fill up your race car before a race, none of what we do as normal road users applies really so thast doesn't need to be included in the game. I'd rather have a 3d garage we can move about in and check all our cars out in than a 3d map of a city we can drive in. It's a layer that would be out of sync with the rest of the game.

dude, there's a typo in the thread title. It's spelt CRAP, not COOL.
Dude, be nice.

On topic, I think a world map wouldn't fit in with the rest of GT5. It only belongs in tuner games like MC3 and NFSU2.

Making "the world of grand turismo" main screen into a real graphical map......like having to drive to the auto shop or home or various car dealerships would be cool. You could even get out of your car and go into the showroom and looks at the cars on offer and maybe have a salesman explain some of the tech specs to you (like they explain in NFSHP3)......if you went to a used car dealership it could look different and maybe with large sale signs and big forecorts with a wide range of odd cars at different levels of condition.......

........the only problem with this is that is could get abit tedious having to drive everwhere every time you want to change something.......if your in a hurry to race it could get annoying.......

 I cant belive the ones that want free roaming into GT!!! First of all: it is other games for that, and second. it wouldn't be Gran Turismo if it had free roaming...

Sorry,
This actually does sound like a pretty good idea after reading some peoples interpretation of it. I reckon it could be good if they dont take it too far. I dont think it should be like nfsu:2 when you just drive to races and shops. They should just have a little town with the licence center, a tuner shop which changes to the name of the tuner for the car in use, the garage of course, and maybe a photo developing center where you go to access photo mode. maybe it'd be cool to have billboards which advertise things with pictures of you driving in them. For example, there could be an advert for Nismo with a picture of you racing in the Silvia Sisters cup or something. And perhaps a Cinema or Theatre where you could watch your replays.

This free-roaming sounds too much like GTA, having to drive everywhere then get out of you car, enter the building, get what you want, exit the buildi....(falls asleep). This sounds very tedious and boring

It just doesn't fit the game, a real race team doesn't drive their race car to a local tune shop, then drive to the car wash on the way home, just leave the feature out.

agree...

No This is Gran Turismo.

Instead, PD should focus on a team concept like mentioned earlier. I want to race, not drive around city streets. I play GTA for a totaly different reason than GT. I want to drive the yellow trimmed Aston DBR9, while Bspec drives the red trimmed one as we go for tthe 1-2 like Micheal and Rubens. Training up the pit crew that works for both of us so we cant pit at the same time. Blue flags, Penaltys for speeding in pit lane or crossing the white line on pit exit, let us control the car in the pits. Let us race, not doddle around town running red lights and killing pedestrians.

No, that's just going to make navagating the game even slower. I want it sped up and made easier to get round not made more complex.

yeh faster navigation, bring back those shortcut in the garage from the earlier games or maybe just make it easy button presses to zoom to the race screen or the tuning screen or whatever

Explore mode: bad idea. But nearly everything else you stated: good idea. Indeed. The more reallistic, the better. I also think being able to customize the racing team( uniforms, teamcolor, sponsors, trailer, etc.) would be a wonderful idea. :)
