Hey everybody, I have been lurking quite a bit recently trying to work out what to buy but I have come to complete stop now and I am utterly confused :nervous:

I have two wheels in my sights but I have absolutely no idea which to choose, I have read reviews, comparisons, etc and so on.. But it seems the two wheels are not exactly directly compared as one 'should' be more expensive than the other, by quite a long way. Here in the UK though the price difference is none existent for some reason, so I am completely stumped as to which to get.

The first is the Porsche 911 Carrera Wheel (€160) + Clubsport Shifter Paddles (€20) + Shipping (€17) = €197 or £179 after bank fees for conversion etc.

The alternative is the Logitech G27. Obviously this is £249 on the link, but using 20% off coupon from returning an old Logitech peripheral and another 9% cashback from a website I use called Quidco. The price comes to about £181 with free post and taxes.

Now every review/comparison etc I have read or watched also notes the massive price difference between these two wheels so doesn't even compare them head to head, but at the moment using the method I said above, the price difference really is none existent.

Which would you choose and why?

Thanks for reading my post 👍

I really couldnt say....Im honest

The price of wheels are so inflated now I wouldnt want you to buy the wrong one.

A Big game release like GT5 Does that to Wheel prices....

Ill Give you my honest thoughts and you decide.

DFGT great wheel but the shifter is on the right and its not a H shifter....If your English your gonna have to learn to shift with your wrong hand..Dont think it has paddles to paddle shift..just buttons..as I remember from my test

G25 (I own this) Great wheel...Paddles and H shifter+clutch....Not many function buttons on the wheel which is a downside..H shifter is a bit sloppy and the pedals make a lot of noise...thinking about it so does the wheel under force feedback it screams if you move it fast.

G27 (drive it all the time at a freinds) Much the same as the G25...Seems quieter on the FFB...no idea why...Thought they were the same? More buttons on the wheel. Some buttons dont work in GT5 less you set up a second pad...Very robust and tactile however....Shame theres not more support in GT5.

Fanatec (only tested the one GT2) liked it but not as much as the G's,,,,force feedback isnt as good.....more functions on the wheel...Buttons etc which is a plus....good feel...very Tactile...clubsport pedals which were on the one I tested were brilliant looking but my M8 reports that the brake sticks on sometimes....Hes phoned Fanatec and customer service isnt up to much in the UK (dont hold that against them we never tried logitech's customer service...it could be terrible) H shifter and clutch available...NOW A MASSIVE PLUS...They work on the X Box too!

So Im torn....The best Wheel for Me is the G25...The G27 could be better but isnt....If I wanted a wheel that was multi platform id buy the Fanatec...Maybe thats why the FFB is lacking...I dont know...The Fanatec clubsport pedals are good...but not 250 Euros of good....

My Opinion and you dont have to take it is start Trawling E-Bay for a good used G25

Deester seems right on, although I haven't used a Fanatec yet, I just faced this same decision. Since I've owned several Logitech wheels (GT Force, Driving Force and DFP) and never had one die yet, I got a G27.

I like the "less buttons on the wheel" aspect of the G27 myself, as well as the fact that you can replace the wheel without much trouble. And it's at least as supported by GT5 as the Fanatec wheels are. I also really like the shifter and how it all mounts up. Logitech really has the whole mounting issue dialed in.

I was close to ordering a Fanatec, but the way the shifter attaches to the wheel and has almost no other mounting options really left me cold... and hard mounting is difficult, since I move my wheels around depending on what I want to play. Plus for the level of wheel I wanted, the money was a little more prohibitive, and I didn't want to wait for backorders.

So I say, G27... I really like mine.

6 to the G27 and 2 to the PWC in the poll so far, although one of those votes was slightly biased hehe. I wouldn't mind if Mr. Fanatec posted here explaining why he thinks the Carrera competes head to head with the G27, because as far as I can see.. It was never designed to do this?

The G27 is Logitech's Flagship wheel with all those little nice touches you expect from their best of the best. Whereas the Carrera is sold as the budget wheel and often I read, "get the GT2/GT3 instead". Over here though, the GT3 wheel alone costs more than the whole G27 set, if I was to add a shifter and the cheap pedals it would be close to £300 and I still won't have that Flagship quality?

Perhaps it is just down to the economy and the current exchange rate, but from what I can see the Fanatec wheels seem either extremely over-priced or I am missing something?

I will mostly be using this on the PC, so cross-compatibility isn't really a selling point for me. I just want the most realistic experience for my money, the best bang for the buck as they say.

is this a trick question? answer seems pretty obvious. not sure i get the point of starting a thread on this?

They are both at the same price in the UK, this is my first wheel, I have no experience of Logitech or Fanatec wheels. I just wanted a little advice before purchasing.

I didn't mean for it to be a trick question, nor do I think the G27 is a clear cut winner. People do seem to complain about the shifter on the G27 whereas on the Carrera it is considered much better, but vice versa with the peddles.

Overall though it would be nice to know what people would choose when they are both at the same price. I haven't found a thread anywhere before that has made this comparison at the same price, I have looked on here and Google and well.. That is when I made this thread, after finding nothing.

I think with your current options the G27 would be the way to go. I don't have personal experience with the Carrera but it is generally regarded as a step above the DFGT but below the G25/27. The GT3 RS and GT2 with ClubSports however would be a step up from the G27.

this section has turned into polls and questions about things that can be easily answered by a very, very small amount of searching and reading. i know the internet is a place for a quick fix but come on. ive also never seen this amount of questions being answered by new members who joined for GT5 and were asking these same questions just a few weeks ago and are now an authority. im also amazed at how new members can go from not knowing which wheel to buy to now having tested every wheel available when the major wheels have been almost impossible to buy at retail for over a month. if you are a new member, do yourself a favor and pay attention to who you listen to. forget the polls and do a bit of research. sorry, but true.

Wait for Inside Sim Racing reviews upconing in next few weeks about Fanatec GT2 (xbox 360 comp.) and Thrustmaster T500RS.

Keep in mind that Logitech wheels have deadzone and too-sensitive brake issues in GT5.

Also - IMO - biggest Logitech Driving Force GT problem is so-so button shifters ;)

I still have no idea why ISR said this, maybe their G27 has something wrong, but my "new" G27 has a very realistic amount of deadzone, and my unmodded brake pedal works fine. Maybe they're getting a little spoiled on their Clubsport pedals...

...or trying to keep a sponsor happy...

...but the Logitech wheels I've tried (GT Force, Driving Force, DFP, G27) work great in GT5.

One of the main reasons I like my fanatec is that they are always releasing new products. Clubsport shifter, and handbrake are on the way. Fanatec always leaves room for upgrades in the future when your wheel starts to feel old. I get bit by the upgrade bug all the time in my hobbies, and fanatec gives their wheel owners something to look forward to.
With the logitechs, whatever you but is what you get, until you decide to buy an entire new setup.

With that said though, I do seem to remember thinking that my G25 had better FF with PS3 games then my turbo s wheel. It just seemd a little more accurate. You felt more imperfections in the road, and it just felt a little more alive. I did though keep my turbo s wheel and sold my G25. I just really like the things that fanatec has been coming out with, and will co me out with.

Thanks for the post Bevo. That is something I did overlook. Although I would be mostly gaming on the PC, is there the possibility that these added extras could bypass/work along side a Logitech wheel? Plugging in via USB or something?

Bscary, I apologise for posting the thread, I didn't realise this section was being flooded with noobs, although it is Christmas/New Year and I guess a lot of people are looking for new toys. I always assumed it is better to read as much as you can, then ask, just in case something has changed recently that may of been overlooked in older posts.

no way man.....no apology needed...lol. it was more to help you looking out for people who might try and help you but are just a few weeks ahead of you in there "knowledge" of race wheels. i know you did your research and were just looking for a final "coin toss" type of solution. it can get confusing. just make sure you know that there are people on here that are not experts, like me.....and then there are others that really did test each of these wheels extensively with many games on each platform. thats what you should be looking out for. i had to correct someone who wrote down recently that the GT2 did not mount to the playseat evo without modding. did i know from experience? no...but GREEKBULL tested it and posted because he actually owns/owned a bunch of these products and wrote a real good review of things. anyway.....good luck and happy racing. sorry to rant.
