OK, here goes.
Looking for a bit of a challenge, in a car that I enjoy driving, and keeping it tight with the AI. After a long look, I picked out my favorite, a Stock RUF RGT. Slapped a set of Sports tires (bad choice) on it gave it an oil change, and headed for the Trial Mtn Enduro.
Im facing off against an NSX Type S Zero, Supra RZ, Mazda RX-7 RX, a Skyline R32 and a Lancer Evo VII RS.
During qualifying, I realized that the Sports Tires were a bit of overkill, as my fast qualifier was 131.824. The NSX was nearly 3.3 seconds off that. He was looking to run a 5 lap pit schedule, where as mine was looking to be a 6 or 7 (with good tire management) this means, Id smoke the rest of the competition without a problem. So a quick downgrade to Normal tires, and my fast lap dropped about 2 seconds. This also changed me to a 4 lap pit schedule. This should put me right about on par with the NSX, and making for a very close race the entire 2 hours.
Ill not list my qualifying time, as it was done on the Sports tires, as opposed to the Normal tires.
And now, to the green flag. It was a smooth take off, and an easy run to my first pit stop.
T3 at just before the first pit stop (lap 4) showed me leading by 11.098 seconds. T1 on lap 5, just after the pit, showed me trailing by 6.486, and well in front of 3rd place.
T3 at pit stop #2 (lap 8) was a 21.526 second lead. T1 on lap 9, just after the pit, showed me leading the NSX by 3.874, and 3rd place was no longer a threat. I think that I may have miscalculated and this car choice is simply too much for the race. Im not sure though, as in 20 laps, I have to make up an entire pit stop. Were just about even at the moment, so it should be close.
On lap 11, the Skyline and the Lancer both go down a lap. Whilst in my 3 pit stop, the Skyline goes back on the lead lap. Hes not that far in front of me, so its likely hell go back down in a few laps.
T3 at pit stop #3 shows me leading by 34.605. T1 just after pit stop #3 shows me leading by 16.274 seconds. Now, Ive got a pit coming up on lap 16 and a pit on lap 20. The NSX has a pit on 15 and 20. This means that Im going to win. AN early guesstimate speculates by about a minute.
On lap 16, I pitted leading by 48 or so seconds. On lap 17 @ t1, Im leading by 29.952 seconds. At this point, its a close call if the NSX will be on the lead lap at the checkered flag.
Bummer, I had hoped for a close race. May have to come back here in the Boxster and see how I prevail.
Towards the middle of lap 20, the Supra RZ began a game of bumper tag with me so that it could stay on the lead lap. Lucky for him, I pitted in at the end of that lap. His time is coming.
Pit stop on Lap 20 shows me a lead of 42.276, at T3. This is the lap that the NSX and I pit together. However, Im leading by a significant margin. Enough that I certain the NSX will not be on the lead lap at the finish line. T1 on lap 21 shows me holding a comfortable 42.027 second lead. So, we multiply that by 2.5 (weve got approximately 50 laps to go, having just run 20.) so that we can estimate out that Ill win by a comfortable 230 seconds margin. Leaving the NSX well off the lead lap. I expect to lap him somewhere around lap 50.
Pit stop margins will be intermittent, as Ive sufficiently butchered the AI at this point.
I caught the NSX on lap 44, thanks to some very clean and consistent driving on my part, and very lousy on his part. We played a bit of bumper tag, as he had a tendency to clip a ledge in the canyon and swerve cross track. At T3 on lap 44, I had lapped him. Only to have him go back on the lead lap when I dropped in for pit #11. He finally went a lap down when he pitted on lap 45.
When I stopped in for pitstop #12, he managed to get back on the lead lap. Shortly there after he pitted, dropping off the lead lap. I hit pit stop #13 and at pit exit, was just a few seconds in front of him. He got close enough to graze my rear bumper, but the caught a few canyon walls. That sufficiently dropped him from rear view mirror.
As a matter of fact, I trailed and lead many of the AI through the canyon, and each time, they slammed the outcropping. If they could have managed to not hit that it might have been an interesting race.
Final Results
Der Alta: 12035.288 (74 laps)
NSX Type S zero: 73 laps
Supra RZ: 71 laps
Mazda RX-7 RZ: 71 laps
Skyline R32: 68 laps
Lancer Evo VII RS: 68 laps
The NSX finished about 1'01 behind me, so my final esitmate of 2'30 was pretty close. Add an average lap of 1'35, and the 1'01 difference puts the final difference 2'36.
I netted 150,000 credits and a Mines skyline.
Now to test that same RGT at the Rome Enduro.
