reasons for why the xr8 race car is not a favourite among us!

i think this pic will explain a little of why!
the car 4kph faster is fwd and has 479hp and is 971kg
the car below it is an mr and has 364hp and is about 750kg
the xr8 in the middle is fr and has 928hp and is 1350kg

get what im saying?
the xr8 is slow for the hp that it has and is heavy too so a fwd car that wieghs almost 400kg less can beat it with half the no. of horses and an and a car that wieghs almost half of what the xr8 is and has almost 3 times less hp can come pretty close to beating it!

there are other reasons though so this is what this thread is for so we can cypher out the things which enable us to dislike it and find a cure for this car as it would be a shame to waste so much power and what is in real life such a nice looking car!

i have seen the road going version of an xr8 which was a pickup strangely!:odd: anyway it was metallic blue and i stare and drool every time i see it although i havent seen it for like 9 months now:( but anyway post away!;)

Yeh but Turbo cars are generally faster than an NA car anyway.

Don't want to bother you here, but there only two things that affect top speed - power and aerodynamics. Weight has nothing to do with it (although it affects acceleration, duh!).

If you're only reaching 210mph in a 930hp car, someone's got the gears wrong and the aerodynamics too high.

I assume this is on Machine Test/Maximum Speed?

It's got to be the body shape - not exactly made for cutting the air, is it? :D

I overhauled both the Teg and the MR2 on my first run, but it inexplicably runs out of steam higher up in the rev range - and it's ability to accelerate approaches close to equal the deceleration effect of the air resistance.

Curious. Like the car lots though :D

The XR8 is not one of my favorites in fact mine only has 6 miles on it. But some people really seem to like the XR8. Go figure. Oh and just out of curiousity, bondy_1625 where are you from that you have XR8s on the streets?

*Merged two threads

ur so 1337 sage :p

yeah top speed aint everything tho. the xr8 will handle better and hold its speed better up hills due to it greater torque. :)
but i dont like it either

You mean its not a favourite among us.
I would have never known.

I myself, find nothing wrong with it. Other than the fact that it over steers but that can be tuned out.

The new XR8 race car in real life is much better...Hopefully they'll put the Pirtek version (that Marcus drives) and the HRT one (Mark Skaife drives this one) in GT4...Then have a series on some Aussie tracks...:D

Actually, being pedantic, vehicle mass does have a (slight) impact of maximum speed, but it's almost irrelevant at high speed when compared to aerodynamic drag.

This is because the force (F) acting on the vehicle is:

F = rolling resitance + aerodynamic drag force
where:
rolling R = a constant (including mass) * v
Aero force = Cd * frontal area * v * v (where v = velocity)

i.e. as velocity increases, aero force becomes far more significant, since it's proportional to the square of the velocity.

The drag coefficient of the (road stock) XR8 is actually pretty good, it just has a large frontal area (and a big rear wing)....

And by the way, IMHO, it's probably just unpopular because it's only available in Australia, and it's just a tuned version of a plain-Jane Ford, rather than because it's not a very good GT3 car....
...not exactly the type of car you lie awake at night lusting after... ;)

In terms of GT3 though... :D

I like the car. Nice noises.

XR8's etc are as common in New Zealand as they are in Australia. The V8 Supercars even come over here for a race too.

everybody stop dissin my beloved xr8 or im gonna ummm.... throw pot plants at u all :grumpy:

I liked this car the first time I used it. That was during my first game of GT3. Now in my fourth and final game of GT3, I don't even have it, nor do I want it. It's a little to slow for the races I am currently racing in, but it would be fun to take out in the Amateur
races again so maybe I'll go win one.

You have a Ford engined car in your avatar, and a Ford model in your signature...

I rather like the Falcon. I used it in a race in Mistral and qualified 2 seconds faster than the Toyota GT-one race car. It's all in the settings.

A whole bunch of XR8 utes were exported to the UK by some mob, but they haven't got the BA falcon yet, IIRC (a newer, better looking one - old model was AU)
I'd actually like to see Lownde's car - It just looks better :)

I like the XR8, simply because I'm a one-eyed falcon fan ;)

yeah, frods are having a good run of it atm hey? :)

Specially Marcus Ambrose...But it's about time he was finally leading. I mean he won about 5 races, and still wasn't on the top! I'm a little biased towards Holden though, but I'm not that kind of person that hates Ford just because I like Holden.

Haha, James...Falcons everywhere? I don't know if you live in Australia, but you're clearly drunk. Falcons aren't everywhere, they aren't the most common car in Australia, it's something like a Corolla or Camry. Or a Holden commodore...

yer.........commodores are pretty common.......but im a holden man so......
