Since my Toshiba has gone up the wall, and won't fix, we are going to ask for our money back. So, recommendations for laptops please.

What we want

Basically, it has to fill the space of this one, but i would like it to be centrino or pentium m, as i have found mine to be extremely heavy for it's size.
Price should be around £999, and no more.
I don't need the infrared or ilink port by the way.

Thanks in advance

Jon

Yes, I've been really happy with my Dell Inspiron. I've had it for almost a year, and other than a glitch or two with windows XP and service packs, it's served as a workhorse. I do 3d modeling on it, as well as a bit of photoshop and web architecture.

It travels with me 5 days a weeks and I tie in wirelessly with 3 different networks on a regular basis. Home, Office, and at the Rescue. I can also connect with the Starbucks across the road, two different neighbors open access and I have tied into one that was at my consultants office.

I am limited with only two USB ports, and I wish it had a slightly better screen resolution. It'll likely get replaces in another year, but I've had no trouble with processor or functionality.

I paid about $800 for it from Dell.

My brother got a nice Dell Inspiron 9100 for like 1350USD after rebates. It is nice, 2.8ghz P4, 9700M, 512MB RAM. This was a year ago, so I'm sure you could get a better one for the same price. It also has like a 17.4" widescreen LCD. 👍

I really like the Sonys with the X black screen. No idea how good they are, just love the way they look.

I'd definitely recommend Dell's Inspiron 9300. We just purchased one two weeks ago and it arrived no less than a week later.

The one we ordered has:
Pentium M 1.6 Ghz processor
1 Gig DDR2 Ram
Geforce 6800 Go 256MB
17inch widescreen LCD

It's a very nice setup. We purchased it through an employee discount program for my dad's company for $1,533. However, this particular setup would have been over $2,400 if it weren't for the instant savings and discount. It's also pretty lightweight considering its size. It's practically the size of the Powerbook G5.

It even outperforms my desktop setup. Time to upgrade that thing since it's getting beaten by a laptop. It handles Doom III quite nicely on high detail at 1024 x 768. I can't seem to play it a higher resolution because it will default to windowed mode. I haven't tried maxing out the settings to see how it would handle it yet.
