Our server was unexpectedly pulled from the network for a few hours earlier today because of a large amount of traffic. Of course, I didn't notice a large increase in traffic so my hosting company suspects a denial of service attack of some kind, maybe even originating from our server if it's security has been compromised. Hopefully it will stay online for the time being, but please don't be surprised if there are future outages. This couldn't have come at a worse time, hang in there and hopefully this will all get resolved soon. I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and support.

I will be backing up our forum's database today, just in case something worse were to happen, so expect the forums to be closed for a few minutes.

Thought it was my computer as well, partly because it is an old relic. I never got the chance to say thank you jordan for letting me go onto this awesome site.

Hey man, you're getting good at the "blame it on someone else" method I was trying to teach you last year. I almost believe it myself (:

haha.

Thanks for hosting and maintaining the site and forums Jordan. I think we all appreciate the net and computers in general are unpredictable, hence, problems can happen. Hope you can get it all sorted.

That's rough buddy. But thanx for the great site and forums. They've been a great help to me.

yeah thanks jordan i dunno what i would do with out gtp when i get bored or pretty much all of my online time because its spent lookin through the gtp forums :D

-keep up the good work man

Yeah, I got a bit worried. Every time I can't get on to GTP I keep pinging it at intervals and wait until I get a reply. I tried it yesterday and it said "unkown host www.gtplanet.net". I though, "oh **** GTP has been completeley destroyed. Nooooooo!!. Glad to see you're back up though. Hope you can get it all sorted.

Good Luck Jordan

To be honest, I didn't even know the site was down. I've been so busy preparing for graduation, going to open houses, and looking for a full-time job that I haven't been on my computer for very long.

It's pretty much impossible to browse at the moment, it took me the best part of 10 minutes to get to this thread... Is the problem on my end? Every other place I go to loads normally, so I'm guessing not.

No, it's definitely not you... It's been a bear trying to browse this site for the past hour or so (it took me about 20 minutes to get in a reply to the Desktops thread), and judging by how few "New Posts" have been made in the past hour, it's for sure affecting everybody. Guess we'll just have to ride it out...

it could be that someone is linking to one of the larger files or databases that you have in the forum, and that file/database is getting alot more hits than usual. But I'm no software engineer or anything like that, so I wouldn't really know...

Well for one thing that I am certain of is that it is iritating, to make it worse GT4:Prologue PAL has been released and the forums dead.

No, guys, it's not just you. There is a Denial of Service attack affecting a large number of servers at our data center. At least that's what I'm told...sometimes I feel like that's just an easy way to dismiss the fact that my host's network sucks. I pay way too much for us to have these problems so often.

I was about to count how long it took to get this page up, as it has taken several minutes earlier today (and i have broadband too) but this time it only took 4 seconds. I noticed slow speed but didnt notice any downtime.

How much do you pay to run this thing (curiosity eats at me like an infection)?

Way too much. :p

GTP isn't on Jordan's personal computer, obviously, it's on a server that his webhost controls. Only his webhost can implement security measures. Even with those security measures, they cannot prevent Denial of Service attacks like the one a few days ago.
