Recommend an Android tablet

So I'm looking for an Android tablet - the primary purpose will be:

a) playing media when travelling
b) using a prepaid sim when travelling to keep in touch with the world.

Apps will be nice, but more as entertainment then 'OMG I have to have Angry Birds lol'. Trying to spend as little is obviously the name of the game, without sacrificing too much useability.

Seems like laptops a couple of years ago, tablets are almost obsolete as soon as they are released as 'newer, better, faster' ones are unveiled to be in the works.

I just want something that will last a year or two before its time for a replacement.

Well, the samsung galaxy tab would be a great choice but it's pricey.
You can pick up the 1st gen iPad for I think $300 but you said android only, don't blame you.
Apparently a bunch will be launching in may/june if you want to wait.
