So, my big black non-HD TV has gone bust. I'm using a tiny silver one temporarily, but it's just too small. When I get GT5 I want to experience it on a bigger screen than that.

So I've come up with some requirements for a new one.

Non-HD.

Large screen with good quality.

Cheap.

The reason I want non-HD is that HD is just too expensive. The cheapest one I've found is around £380, and that's still far too much for me. Although, I might be tempted if you can find me an HDTV for, like, £120, but that's very unlikely.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks :)

What size is this "tiny silver one" so we know what we're aiming at? Also, I'm guessing £120 isn't going to get you much of a TV. Sure that number can't come up?

Absolutely sure. I mean, come on, a non-HD tv these days has got to be less than that?

And my silver one is roughly nine inches high and eleven inches wide.

You should be able to pick up a 16:9 set at 32" for less than £100 easily, try your local electrical retailers, see if they have any ex-demonstration or ex-rental sets available.

Try you local newspaper too, people are virtually giving away old CRT televisions now, you might find you can get it for free if you pick it up.

I'd recomend a Sony 32" 16:9 100Hz set, personally.

My last two TV's were a 32" 16:9 philips CRT, and a 50" sony LCD rear projection (lo-def, not brilliant to be honest) both of those cost <£100. I'm buying a HD TV when GT5 comes out though... reasonable 1920×1080 42" panels now from about £480... I'll be buying a new PS3 and G27 at the same time unfortunatley, GT5 is going to one expensive game for me!

if you are only using it for PS3 and your cablebox thats got HDMI. I would suggest to get a LCD monitor that's 1080p compatible with HDMI input. They are much cheaper now than a tv and if you only get your channel reception from a cable box with HDMI then you don't really need the tuner other wise another CRT would be the cheap route to go. Oh, one mor thing make sure the monitor comes with speakers.

That is absolutely perfect. Thanks so much.
One of the things I'm not a fan of is the 1440 x 900 resolution. Anyone who has a PS3 connected to a monitor with that res might be able to dismiss my fear, though.

It's 16:10 so it'll either stretch the image to fit or there will be letterbox bars on the top and bottom of the screen. I'm inclined to say it'll stretch as that's what the TV in my kitchen does.

On the other hand, my laptop is 1440 X 900 and it letterboxes...

Yeah thats what I thought. I doubt the monitor/PS3 combo will figure out what it's supposed to be doing though, laptop's/PC's normally have more options.

I have my PS3 hooked up to an Acer 23"inch Monitor that's 1900X1200 it has options on what you want it to do either zoom in so no borders or one to on so it has borders but no distortion or fit to screen were it streches the image to the monitor size. But if you get the newer ones that is exactly 1080p then it should fit perfectly with no distortion. You just have to look at the specs. Plus make sure it has the HDMI input and that usually a good sign that it will configure it properly.

No, I'm not going to be using it just for the PS3. I need TV, DVD and VCR (!) playing also.

Well, whatever happens I've found my new TV... I might check out the other larger one as well, but as I said money is very tight.
