So, I used to really enjoy Motorcross Madness (yes I am that old) and it's free to roam point to point racing. More recently, MotorM4X which has some pretty reasonable free off-road fun.

Can the collective mind recommend a good PS3 alternative? Emphasis on physics being realistic over relaxed, and the ability to plan a route rather than be tied to a track preferred. Cars preferred over bikes, but open to suggestions.

Cheers!

I'm afraid there aren't on PS3. Nowdays developers are too busy doing another fps shooter, or silly crap like "minis".

Lot of rare genres like "off road free to roam motorbikes" are totally forgotten by these "genious".

The only one that springs to mind is Fuel, but the only issue I have is that the maps are huuuuuuuuuge.

Midnight Club: Los Angeles and Burnout Paradise are the only two that spring to mind. Neither one is realistic but they should both be pretty cheap.

The Fuel map may be massive but the point-to-point races you create are limited to 99 miles in length - okay, you can make a circuit of that but it wouldn't be a true point-to-point then.

There are still a few groups that play Fuel together online, though almost no randoms online the last few times I checked.

If you get fuel watch out for the physics. I found it odd that my monster truck wouldn't get out of first gear going over a grassy field. Also the A.I on that game is a bit messed up. The A.I cars fly past you at the start of a race but then slow down near the end and you can just cruise past them.

Lol, yes ain't that the sad, sad truth.

Nowadays I tend to look out for games that some reviewer writes off for being obscure, niche and difficult to get into and I pick that up and often it's a really solid good old game. Like back in the days when games were allowed to have character.
