After months of searching, I'm still not much closer to finding a decent book that concerns the topic of automotive technology. One of our current project vehicles, a 1952 Morris Minor Series II has prompted me to search for an all-in-one book on the anatomy and workings of a car (though favourably with a view on modern vehicles and their technology).
I've no intention of becoming a mechanic or anything, but I want to learn more about the inner-workings of the motorcar so to be able to properly tinker, fix and particularly modify properly and effectively my own future vehicles. It can't be too basic, but again it can't be too complicated to start off with. Highly acclaimed books I've found so far include Automotive Technology: A Systems Approach by Jack Erjavec and Auto Fundamentals by the GOODHEART-WILLCOX COMPANY. However, since I've not been able to acquire and read one of these copies yet I am unsure whether they are what I'm looking for in terms of understanding all the mechanics of a motorcar.
Can anyone here share some advice?

Sounds like you are looking for the Bosch Automotive Handbook.

I will say that it is very in-depth, and contains more information than you even wanted to know about cars and automotive systems in general. You might find it to be a boring read as it reads like a textbook. In fact, I think our local college requires it as a supplement to any automotive mechanics course that you take.
