'Recommended' Checkbox in Open Lobby

I'm curious as to what this checkbox actually does, I can't seem to notice any difference between rooms that appear with it checked, and rooms that appear without it checked.

I was guessing it showed rooms with limits that you could enter with your current car or something, but tried it with the F2007 and it just showed normal rooms, no F1 only rooms. There might have actually been no F1 rooms, needs more experimenting I think.

Anybody know what it does?
 
I tried it yesterday while in a kart, and it didn't seem to make any difference. I got a bunch of normal car races. *shrug*
 
Recommended based on your internet connection perhaps?

Another question-what does the bar graph indicate?

I noticed whatever way you search for online races; you need to refresh the list often
 
The bar graph I think is based on ping times, empty bars, high ping.

Recommended, I always assumed picked the best ping/lowest lag servers, but I don't think any of it works properly.

I'll get 99 rooms, hit recommend, 6, it refresh 89, hit refresh 25.

I don't think any of it works at all, it's all just theater to make it look good :)

Bringing up a dead thread to find the answer. So does anyone yet have a real answer for what the checkbox is for?
I just thought about this and never knew how to use it all this time.
 
My PS3 isn't powered up but try clicking the help button on your screen for an answer.

That's because there's always four pages of rooms displayed which you cycle through, and it doesn't matter how or what you search for, the server will split any room searching into 4 display pages.

Restrict the options to search for just one track only (say Nurb, or Top Gear Test Track as they are quite common). Take a note of some of the room names and their hosts, then press refresh. Take note of the same things again, then press refresh, and repeat the cycle for a 4th time. The next time you press refresh, you'll notice that the page is displaying the rooms and hosts that you started off with.


As for the other icons. I always guessed that the bars related to connection strength with the host, and the stars were the room's race quality settings.

My guess on recommended is that it either gives you a selection of rooms based on the conditions of previous rooms you've been in or hosted yourself. But perhaps it could just be which rooms have the biggest flow of traffic entering, or it could pick rooms based on a "ideal room" presets created by PD, who knows. I would say it could give you a selection based on who you'd have a good connection with, but I've noticed a lot of zero and one bar rooms popping up with the recommended option highlighted.
