Reconsider buying Prologue?....

I am in North America, and the game doesn't come out till the 15 of April. Since the game has been out in UK etc... I have noticed a lot of complaints about certain things like, online is garbage, people wrecking everywhere, jaggies, lag, certain cars are to fast, no standing starts, single player missions are to short, no long races. etc..

Now since I have been hearing all this it's making me reconsider buying Prologue and maybe waiting until the final version comes out one day. Some of you that have bought the game and have played it for some time now, would you buy the game again if you new it was going to be like this?, was it up to your expectations?.

I have been playing Forza 2 since it came out basically, and have more then 330Hours online racing. I am no fanboy of either system I just enjoy a good racing game.

I perfer to race online, single player is quite boring. I have not gotten a PS3 yet. I was going to get one when Prologue comes out so take this into consideration. I am kind of glad the game comes out later for North America so I can get a taste, and or reviews about the game before I make my decision. What would you guys do?

PS Forgot the biggest issue......BOOSTING in online racing if your behind? WTF is that? :(

I've got a friend who's set on GT5P so I will wait till he gets it and I can play it before I make my decision. I really want GT5P, but at the same time I really want to be totally blown away by GT5 and I'm afraid prologue is going to steal some of the wow factor. :P

Well im hoping the game is great and all but I don't really want to go out buy a PS3 just for the game only to find out that its not as great as it looks.

I currently have JPN version Prologue with the Spec 2 update, and I have already paid in full for US ver Prologue if that tells you anything. Since Prologue came out, it has had 2 updates, both on the major side. First one was for online, and the other was for more cars, another track, and quick tune. There will be more updates for Prologue as time goes by. Yes, online is not that great, but this is their first try at an offical world release for online racing. Yes it will take a bit of time and expermenting to get things right, but I am sure it can only get better. I have throughly enjoied Prologue, and will continue to do so. There will always be people wrecking others just for a win. Cheating is cheating wether it be the turn any car(ff,fr,mr) in game to awd, cutting corners, bashing others just for the win(or to ruin others game experience). But im pretty sure private rooms will be in an update sometime or another, so that will end soon.
As far as lag, certian cars are too fast for the PP, and people wrecking, Forza 2 had all of that going. Lag is dependtant on each persons connection and distance apart from one another. That will be in any game, some more noticable than others. Cars too fast for their performance points/index Forza 2 also had that problem, along with people ramming each other off the track. Updates can be made and things can be fixed so don't base your decision on just those facts alone. Details are great, but YES there are a few jaggies here and there. I play on a 20 inch SDTV and I am very impressed with the graphics, but I do want more(IE HDTV). I have been shopping, but I dont want to end up with a 700$ tv that just sits around because its response time was too poor, or whatever. Cockpits are great with the exception for the driver not actually turning the wheel 900*, just 180*. I can live with that though. Maybe it will be changed in GT5? Who knows? Not me.
Just my opinion so take it however you want.
Also, a 900* wheel will greatly increase the fun and sim factor(either DFP, G25 or the new DFP + a few buttons that will be coming out with GT5)

Thanks for your input, more comments would be nice :D. Hey Nasanu maybe your around to comment how you like GT5P (if you have it) I know you used to play Forza 2 so it would be nice to hear your thoughts on what you would do or reconsider doing.

Aren't cars used for racing generally set up so that they don't have to turn the wheel as far, as this improves control? It may not be true for all cars, but this explanation (if I'm correct) works for me.

I have prologue since it came out here in the Netherlands. It's one of 10 games now for my PS3 and I'm not playing anything else, I think this may be so for a few more months. It's the best GT ever, despite it being relatively small on the missions. Play online on times when the little kids are in their beds and that will be fine. Got a newsitem last night saying that online races will change every thursday so I'm setting my hopes on brand or even type races so we can enter professional races without the Elises or better, with cars less powerfull.
It's a must have for all GT enthusiast, even a friend of mine who's allways had XBox is not even considering buying a PS3, he IS going to do that now he's seen GT5P.
Go pre-order your copy now to be sure to have it as soon as it hit the stores.
I'm waiting for the US release hoping to get the Peugeot's too in an update.

Its a bit of a tough one really. I love the GT series and naturally I love this game. But from an online perspective it will leave you wanting for FM2, or FM2 style options at least.

I have been getting into the time trials a little more recently and using the racing for more relaxed fun and money. The racing is not quite as bad as you might think, though you wont be challenged much, I win quite easily if I dont get taken out. But the time trials are tough, some very fast guys to be found there. Most of the bashers you hear about are playing in the baby races while the pro races are much better, at least in the JPN version which I play. At first all race types are filled with bashers as is the norm when a new game launches, as you would remember from the early days of FM2. Its also quite a different feeling racing when you cant talk to the other players or create lobbies and such. Plus now that they have added car points to the racing one car tends to dominate, but if you liked FM2... And that stupid catchup logic they use online... I expect the to be removed at some point, they do seem to listen to the community eventually. All in all its a little cold, GT has always been more about the cars than the racing really.

I'd still get GT5P if I were you though, because what you get now is not the same game you will be playing at the end of the year. Little by little the updates roll in and online is the main focus for the devs at the moment. Though the entry cost for you is rather steep if you are buying a PS3 aswell, and really you want a wheel. It adds so much to the experience and the wheels GT5 supports are leagues above that horrid forza2 wheel. Its really all down to how you will react to the detached style of online because you will love the graphics, cars and physics.

One thing is certain though. When GT5P gets better online options you wont want to be stuck playing Forza2. At some point, you will want a PS3 and GT and if you wait the price of the PS3 might come down by a $100, but what are you saving, $10 a month? I'd rather have the option to play.

Thx Nas. The price of the PS3 and GT5P isn't really an issue just, don't want to waste that kind of money and find out the game is seriously flawed or needs a crapload of work.

How do the physics compare to Forza nas? Would you say there better or worse?.

(...)

FM2 is a full game, GT5:P isn't.

(and it costed 65 euro against 0 euro if you buy the PS3 starterpack)

Yes but I was asking for comparing arguements as the game lies now. Putting aside the fact that it's not a complete game. But all great comments :D apreciate it. Ill probabley still get it anyways because im quite bored of Forza 2. Overplayed it waaaaaaaaaaaay to much

To be honest I'd have to fire up FM2 again to really compare, I have not played it in ages. But when I first played prologue and turned off all the aids and turned pro physics on, I was really impressed. The only thing I thought needed work was the braking because you could not lock the wheels. But as I said the updates roll in and now with specII you can totally turn abs off and lock up. All complaints are gone.

The first thing I really noticed was how much better 4wd cars were to drive. I have never really enjoyed racing an evo or sti, they just tend to understeer and dont offer much fun. But its a different story in prologue. You can feel how the suspension is designed to get the back out a little under braking and it comes out again slightly under full power. Very fun.

I really have no complaints about the physics. Maybe side by side with something else you could pick out flaws, but it tricks my brain into believing and that's all it needs to do.

I hope they fix slowdown when more than 4-5 cars in front of you, im quite shocked the framerate is that bad, never seen that before in a GT game.
I know the fanboys cant see any slowdown at all, but go read the IGN review of prologue and see for your self. Lots of jaggies too, yes i have a very good HDTV and other games looks great on it.
There are many other flaws, you can drive through cars, and many other graphical glitches.
Online is just terrible, cars dissapearing and what not.
Now let the flaming begin, i just dont think i should pay for being a betatester.

But for now the single player is good right? I mean the online will surely improve. It has too. I don't mind playing the game in single player and just hotlapping the tracks, until the online gets better. I don't think ill play much online until they get private lobbies or friend invites etc...

Some people are just never happy.
I've had this game for over 2 weeks now and I cant stop playing it.
I hear a lot of moaning about online play, I find its good, ok you do get the occasional idiot, but what do you expect with all that people online.

Im sick of reading about people moaning about this and that, what do you expect of a game thats costs 20 pounds, 40 US Dollar.

Its an excellent game, but some people will never be happy, and always find faults with it.

That's just what I do, online is poor at the moment, but that's not the fault of the game, yes private rooms will sort this out but it is the players who ruin the play.
I wasn't going to bother with Prologue, but when I saw it running and saw the variety of cars already available, I'm glad I did and to answer your first question, yes, I would buy it again if I had to reconsider.

Good stuff sop :D. Thx for the reply

I bought the JPN version and the UK version...would I do it again? YES!

Did it live up to my expectations? YES!

Is online crap before 11pm....yes! But after 11pm its pretty much guranteed that all the kids will be in bed and you'll be racing proper drivers that actually want to race!

I was in a similiar situation to you so I shall give my views.

Like yourself I played FM2 and I actually did rather well in this game because before the scoreboards were reset I was No1 overall in Exhibition and No2 in Career and I did manage to get myself into No2 position again on Exhibition. I am saying all of this not to brag but to illustrate how much I played the game.

A few weeks ago myself and my friends all decided to purchase a PS3 so we could play GT5P. Now at first we all thought isn't this extravagant buying a console for a game but then we realised this is Gran Tursimo we are talking about and is the series we had all grown up to love.

Now I can't talk much about online because how me and my friends are playing GT5P is this.
(1) Complete all events aqquring Gold.
(2) Aqquring every single car in the game.
(3) We have a target of competiting for every leaderboard in every car.
(4) Very soon competiting for online time trails.

So at the moment there is plenty to do without playing online. The only reason why racing against strangers doesn't interest me is because after playing PGR3,4 & Forza 2 I have become sick and tired of playing against people who just wish to spoil it for others instead of racing fairly. We will be participating in online racing when the ability to set up private rooms is available.

I would like to finally add that In my opinion when it comes to comparing GT5P against FM2 in terms of graphics, physics then GT5P blows FM2 away.

lol funny ^^^

Good stuff VORB, phsyics is the most important to me really. I am in the same boat as you. Won't touch any online until I finish single player 100%, and even then ill probabley just hotlap or time trail when I do go online until i can host my own rooms with my own options :D

Thats not entirely true. There is slowdown in the game, maybe to about 25fps sometimes, but to say that it does it with only 3-4 cars is going a bit far. I get slowdown usually only when there are 12 or more cars ahead and then it mostly only happens when someone goes off track and kicks up particle effects. Honestly I don't consider it a problem at all, it has never distracted from my racing. It would be nice if the frame rate was always solid, but its not everything to me.

The jaggies, well a lot is dependent on the TV, and not the quality of it but what settings you use, and whether you run in 720 or 1080. But I agree the game could use more AA, but even with jaggies is anyone suggesting that the graphics in this game aren't amazing?

And the driving through cars you speak of, it is not a bug or a flaw, its actually a very good idea. A car turns into a ghost when the game thinks its out of control. I have been saved countless times online when a ghost has come flying through my car instead of someone smashing me off the track.

Or maybe you are talking about when the game first launched and online was a real mess with cars doing all sorts of weird things? That is a thing of the past. All my races these days are very stable, actually I am quit impressed with the lack of lag I get online with 16 players. But it might be different for those in different countries playing different versions.

Anyway I actually came here to post about Forza2 and GT5 because I just pulled out FM2 and played back to back with GT5P. I used the evo 9 at suzuka as a bench mark for my short playtest.

First thing is the graphics in FM2, so cartoonish now. But very smooth, rock solid frame rate. But thats the lest important aspect, we all know GT5 looks great and that FM2 is old now.

Driving wise I used the stock tyres on the evo to do 5 laps with the controller. Its hard to believe how bad I am at this game (FM2) now. I found it to handle well like it does in prologue, but it has so much more tyre grip, in prologue I had to bump it up to s2's to feel more like it. I also could not spin the evo in FM2. Even dipping a wheel on the grass while accelerating didn't do much. In prologue the car is much more lively and I had to correct when I dipped a wheel of track and hit the accelerator. I still never spun the evo in GT5p, but the car does move more.

I have never driven an evo in real life so I am no great judge here, but I can say that GT5 was more challenging and engaging. I don't believe its lacking anything in physics to forza2.

Nice Nasanu im glad I made this thread. Im feeling a lot more positive now about the game. When they have friendslist and make your own rooms ill have too add ya Nas so we can duke it out some ;). Unfortunetely there is no fairlady Z (old school one)so im screwed!!! lol. Although that Amuse Fairlady looks so freaken sweet with the black rims with the silver lip!!! omg thats sexy!!. Thats one thing I wish Forza had, when you change rim colour you should be able to change the lip of the rim. Nothing nicer then a blacked out rim with a chrome lip (deep dish style)

If you don't put much emphasis on online play, the game is very worth it. I bought the japanese and the european Prologue, and I didn't reget any of these decisions until today. I've never had as much fun with a Gran Turismo before, and it has never been this realistic.

isn't there a 350 Amuse? or is it something else? It has nice blacked out rims with a deep dish look silver chrome lip?

I think its called opera/amuse 350z, or something similar. Its great around London :)

Cant wait to be able to battle it out with you gatz :) Just got to hope that in the final game we will be able to do so, so far is split between europe/us/japan online (i think the time trials are global though). But I'll probably buy the US version anyway, less lag to you guys then Europe.
