"Recording" DVD segments via desktop

Lets say I wanted to record a 10 second segment of the star wars death trench run for a project

I have camstudio that will take any part of my screen and record whats going on and saves it

Only problem is that since the movie is copyrighted, the movie screen is black but everything else on my desktop is to be seen as clear as day

Is there any way to bypass this black screen of copyrighteousness? (It's not like this project im doing is going to make me any money)

You can start in the DVD ripping section. You need to rip the DVD, the specific chapter where the Death Star run scene is in, and then edit it down to only what you need.

then would you have a reccomendation for the best freeware if you can (if not then shareware thats 20 dollars or under) for ripping DVDs for this?
