So...Shift 2 is using the Dodge Challenger Concept...again. 2 years after the car's officially released and they're still using the concept car? Really? They can't be bothered to visit their local Dodge dealer?

In fact, it seems most of the models in Shift are recycled from earlier games with only a handful of new models.

What's REALLY stupid about it is that Hot Pursuit used newer car models like the 2010 Challenger SRT8 and they ported a couple cars from HP to Shift...so...why not cars like the Challenger? Seriously? EA just seems lazy to me.

I mean half of the cars have been around since Underground 1.

Your right, EA is so lazy, now if youll excuse me im gonna go use one of my 800 recycled standard cars that PD put in GT5, just cant choose which of the 50+ skyline variants to use....

That's just the way companies do it. You recycle the cars meaning less time on it which means we get it earlier. Simple.

It's fair comment though. Why still use the concept when a little bit of remodeling would make it the production model.

Money and Licesing issues nuff said. There isnt a company in the world that doesnet do this so all companies are lazy especially game companies sheesh

I'd wager it's EA who do the licensing deals and not the individual development studio. HP has the production Challenger, so it's unlikely it would have been a licensing issue.

my laptop has a kkeyboard..tsss my 8 year old other laptop already had a keyboard why can't they think of something new....

OT: We want new games fast so they have to recylce (and slightly tweak) older models. Or do you want to wait 6 years for a new version of a game (and still have the old models LOL).

Lol, and how did you feel when you found out that PD ported 800+ cars from GT4 into GT5?

Yeah, but they're all from one game ago except one. I mean, you literally have the entire lineup from NFSU in Shift 2. Only 20 of the cars in Shift 2 are new to the series.

And I think the only reason Hot Pursuit got a production Challenger is 'cause Criterion got up off their butts and actually did the modelling on one.

I don't know. I feels like NFS is just rushing games out the door so they're taking short cuts. I think those short cuts are gonna bite them in the butt soon. Which it was before Shift/HP/Shift 2. Although...Shift 2 has been getting mixed reviews, so...And it sounded like the Criterion Games NFS title was a one time thing as they're busy with other things like Burnout 6. So, what are they gonna do the the arcade titles? Underground 3 is supposedly in the works, but...do we REALLY need another Underground?

Are you talking about them being Underground models, or just that they're the same types of cars? I mean, a good car is a good car. You don't stop including good cars just because they're starting to get old.

At least you can add the Works conversion in every car and they are all "premium" models. You right when you talk about the Challanger but there are Pros and Cons in almost every game.

Fair point. It does seem somewhat strange that they have the 2006 concept Challenger when the SRT8 has been out for the best part of 3 years. But then, they've still got a Z06 even though the more powerful ZR1 has been out for ages. No ACR, either. By all means, keep the Z06 and the SRT-10 but they should have included the newer versions, particularly because they are America's flagship cars, pretty much....

" All premium models " Oh sunshine, if only. Take a look at the video's on youtube if you don't take my word for it, for a start Shift2 is in 720p :yuck:, vs GT5 in beautiful 1080p and the model's whilst they feature an interior view defintely come nowhere close to a premium model set by GT5 standards, although i'm excited too get a game with good crashes though, even if it is a blade of grass that caused me to flip i'm happy to watch it flip.

I'm telling you after playing GT5 Nurburgring in 1080p with those wonderful physics and then playing Shift2 Nurb in 720p with it's physics on offer you will be dissapointed and realise it's another NFS game.

However if you don't play GT for a week before you get Shift2 and then play Shift2 i think they experience might be enhanced a tad, but if you under stand driving and driving dynamics you will notice the difference between the two in a very bad manner for Shift2 unfortunately.
The back of car's whilst night racing are blocky and frankly look awful.

If you ask me Shift2 looks like another game pushed out the door by EA to get $$$, they raved and raved about the new physic's engine it really it just a bunch of on-screen telemetry data trying to trick you into thinking everything is right when clearly through the steering wheel is not right, it's either quite good and representing over/under steer fairly or terrible, indirect and laggy feeling, it has it's moments but defnitely never think WOW that FF through that lap was intense.

You get good judders on rumblestrips and track bumps but they actual over/under steer feel that is portrayed through the wheel needs to be worked on absolutely...hopefully they patch it. FF is not what i was hoping with these over dramatic crashes, i thought we might get some dramatic dynamic feedback but it's just not there :(

Fun game to blast round in though, can't wait till more people online, although with these over-the-top crashes ( when you get the game and see how repetitive they can get) i have a feeling online will get messy with people just wanting to bump you and watch you flip 57.5 times , hopefully they Precision vs Agression matchmaking system works well.

Lol....and that is the real question.

Even though it is recycled, its still a premium and a fully upgradable one across the board. In fact, all of the cars in this game will be premium and fully upgradable. In GT5 I probably only used a good 10 cars or less out of 1000+. Its not about the quantity, its about quality.

There's no game dev in the world that makes 100% new models for a sequel, especially in the same gen.

However, there is cleverly recycling assets to save time, while still maintaining a high standard of quality, and then there's this. Which is just plain laziness. And seriously, the concept isn't THAT different from the SRT8, I'm sure a good modeller could make the necessary changes in not alot of time at all.

Also, just because HP and Shift are both published by EA, doesn't mean that they are sharing assets.

@ skope Yep good point, I know what you are talking about, I have rFactor / GTR2 for the simulation, I'm not expecting S2U to be a die hard sim, just a nice simcade game with innovative graphic and good customization. Everything I need to know now is something about the frame rate, and the AI competitiveness. Is this game too easy? Does the frame rate drops in a PS3?

Yeah, I don't know how anyone can live with 1280x720x4MSAA if they have 1280x1080x2MSAA on offer. Indeed, it is the technical marvel of this generation - 50% more pixels for 50% less antialias? Genius.

Let's not forget that gorgeous 1/16th backbuffer that makes anything involving alpha effects look so nice :)

It sure does make a difference going from drake and GT5 in beautiful 1080p, then you throw Shift2 in and get a lil amped for it because it really is quite fun to play for an hour or so then you see the graphics and it's really hard to ignore the harshness of 720p v 1080p.

To the person asking about framerate drops, i haven't noticed much of anything there after 6-7 hours play time. This could be down to the fact it runs at a really really disappointing 720p @ 30FPS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 30FPS yes 30, not a mistype it really is 30FPS in today's day and age...... So hard to drop frames when your only displaying 30 of them p/second @ 720p

Thats great news... im definitly going to get this... no frame rate drops
What about screan tearing? does it have the terrible screan tearing that GT5 has? like half of the car is heading south and the other half is heading east?

And shadows? are there any Shadows running in 360 while the rest of the game runs on 1080 (like on GT5)

The shadows on GT5 is due to the ' Dynamic lighting system ' stated by KY-San himself. When you play shift you will see the difference between GT5 lighting and Shift2 - make up your own mind which you prefer but they are very different to each other.

Also yes no frame rate drops - that's because if it dropped below the 30fps it runs at (GT5 runs at 60 @ 1080p ) then it would be un-playable. 20-25 fps is catastrophic.

Wow, this thread got hijacked and is now VERY off topic. What does the resolution have to do with recycled car models.

But, I must admit, the Cadillac CTS-V is missing. I think it's been missing for a couple games, though. But, Looking through the list, there's about 20 or so cars that haven't been in other NFS games. At least they update the graphics on them, but really, if you look at cars like the Challenger and 240SX, you can tell that they're just redressed versions of their original models.

Well I though it was due to hardware limitations... Im always learning something new... even if it is B%$#%$

The thing about EA is that they are all about the money, so you can expect to see ton of DLC on almost about everything in this game. I guarantee it!

So sooner or later you'll more than likely see 3 different models for every car that you can "purchase".

1. You can already buy either the 5 fastest cars, all the cars or all the cars and events.

2. Someone close this thread as it's gotten far off from where it originally started.

This is true, and it's a shame. Did they update the LFA from the concept model that it was in Shift 1? I'd be super sad if that wasn't the production version at least.
