Red Bull X Challenge

I am going back to the Red Bull Challenge to improve my driving skills. I completed the championship and did a horrible job at it. Can I still advance to the 3rd series by driving the individual races and scoring 3rd or do I have to do the championship series with 3rd overall to advance?

You have to finish third overall. You can't get a final position if you do the races individually.
