While the Red Hot Chili Peppers slumbered, the band’s members have been keeping busy these last couple of years, what with drummer Chad Smith joining all-star group Chickenfoot, frontman Anthony Kiedis developing a series for HBO and bassist Flea enrolling at USC to study music theory. But things are about to change in Pepperland. Smith recently told Billboard the band would reconvene in the studio this fall, and Keidis and Flea confirm to Rolling Stone they are indeed ready to rock again.

“We’ve decided to write some songs,” Kiedis told us at a benefit for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, the Los Angeles school Flea founded. “We imposed a two-year hiatus, which we felt we needed, then we went back to the roundtable and the decision was, ‘Let’s do this.’ “

There’s no timetable yet on a new album, their first since 2006’s double-platinum Stadium Arcadium, but Flea, for one, is anxious to get going. “After being kind of burnt at the end of our last tour, I feel major enthusiasm and vigor,” he said. “Not like a restlessness, but a really healthy excitement. I’m just into it and ready to go forward.” Offers Kiedis: “The seeds are being planted.”

Smith told Billboard that he and his bandmates “haven’t talked about” a potential producer, but joked that Rick Rubin, the guiding force behind the Chili’s last five albums, “always ends up being the guy.” Sure enough, Rubin made his presence known as a benefactor of the Conservatory and a guest at the August 15th fundraiser by wearing his trademark white T-shirt and jeans to the formal affair.

Being an absolute RHCP addict. This is full of win, :D It will be very interesting to see which musical direction the next album takes.

I hope their new album ends up like 'Stadium Arcadium' as I love nearly all of the songs off that album. Or something a bit heavier like 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik' would be nice:sly:......I fact, I love all RHCP so I can't wait for their new album to be released.....:)👍👍

Yeah I can see it being different, they have gradually gotten more mellower and spiritual and thoughtful, so I guess we can expect a continuation of the change.

Although I was never a huge RHCP fan, I did like quite a bit of their work. I'm glad to hear they are back though, I'll probably try and listen to it when it comes out. :)

There earlier stuff is far more spiritual and thoughtful. Incredibly vibrant lyrics. I liked Stadium Arcadium, but no more than that. Probably the weakest album of the group (as it is now and has been for a while). I'd love to think they could replicate BSSM/Mother's Milk (which I actually prefer to BSSM), but I'm not holding out for it.

Of course I'll buy it, and it's RHCP, so I'll love it. But I don't see them being their best. Hopefully it'll involve a UK tour with the new album...

From what I've heard the majority of the tour will be European. I'm not claiming to have inside sources, but I know someone who does claim, and if there is one person who would have them it's this one.

If that makes sense

Latest word from my source is that they are jamming and John Frusciante is not involved in this album.

God. Damn. it.

I've never understood peoples love for him.. To me hes just another generic rock guitarist... Not my style I guess...

As for the album.. I used to be a RHCP fan but I thought Stadium Arcadia was awful, but then again it came out the same time 10,000 Days came out... Back when I was in 5th and 6th grade I couldn't get enough of them... But that was at the same time I like Linkin Park... I'll give the album a listen but I have doubts that I will ever buy it. It would have to surpass a long list of other albums that I inevitability be wanting to buy.

Just saw that, it's a bugger as he's a very good guitarist. It'll be interesting to see what happens on the new album.

If I take a step back and think about it. I think he's advanced past them now. Sure, if he stayed for another album it would've been fantastic (see The Empyrean for my reasoning. But creativity wise he's just on another level, but it's good to see it was on good terms etc.etc. However the band members when asked about it do seem really down.

The Chili Peppers are by far my favorite band! Can't wait for the new album. Maybe, I'll finally get to see them live. Sad to know John won't be involved. But it's nice to know that He's on good terms with the rest of the band.

When he's ON, he's got the funk to blow away a lot of guitarists. The problem is he phones in about half of his performances.

Well it's Josh Klinghoffer as the new guitarist. Seeing as Frusciante was effectively a protege of Slovak and now Frusciante's protege Klinghoffer has stepped up, it will be very interesting to see his abilities. If I'm honest for me no one can replace JF in that band and I think the next album will either be a reasonably slow less funky more melodic affair, or a stadium arcadium styled effort with less success.

I've been waiting for their new album forever it seems like! Would they just hurry up and release it!? At this point, they might as well name the new album "Gran Turismo 5"!

This and the new Van Halen album are taking forever! It's a good thing Arcade Fire just released their new album or else I wouldn't have anything to listen to.

I used to be a huge Pepper-head, so I don't know how to feel about this album. Frusciante was nearly the dominant songwriter in the last decade, and I've never liked Klinghoffer. I'll have to wait and see how this pans out.

Being a RHCP longtime devoted fan I'm also very expectant for their new work, although I'm more fond of their earlier albums...

Completely agree. I think it'll end up more melodic, kind of like By The Way. I definitely liked that album, but I think that without Frusciante the whole experiment wouldn't have worked as well. I've heard his work with Klinghoffer, and although I do like him I don't know well Josh's style would match with the Peppers'.

Either way still looking forward to this. Nice avatar too :)

Funnily enough I was talking to Anthony Kiedis' father Blackie Dammett about LA. I needed some advice as I'm flying there tomorrow. Top guy.

After meeting Anthony and Flea on said holiday I've found this brand new pic of John, he looks terrible :nervous:

Back to? He never stopped, may have pulled it back a bit, nowt more. His singles stuff reveals a certain mindset. It's a shame, because his first two albums with them (Mothers Milk and BSSM) were brilliant for someone at just teens/early 20s and the peak of the band in general.

I think that's a bad example for a picture but latest pics he always seems to be drinking wine from the bottle + smoking something.

Red Hot Chili Peppers' latest single in out today. And their album comes out August 30th.

The album is called I'm With You:
