Whilst I was viewing the Photography Subsection (to be precise Automotive Photography Competition 58 - POLL)and I was redirected to this site "ChinaOnTV" Here's the link but from the looks of it, it is a spam website <-- link removed --> I tried hitting back when it took me to this page but it wouldn't let me go back to browsing the thread I was looking at.

Just a heads up, I don't know if anyone else has experienced this probelm though.

Cheers,

Speedster

That's definitely not supposed to happen! However, this type of random redirection is almost always caused by some type of malware which has made its way onto your computer. I urge to perform the necessary scans as quickly as possible to see if you find anything.

Just had the same thing happen to me while trying to access the GTP registry page. Definitely no malware on here so unsure how it happened.

I went on my other computer this morning (desktop PC) and it happened again, I've scanned both the computers today and no sign of any malware on either of them.

OK, what's operating system and browser are you guys using?

I'm using the most up to date version of Firefox, but on my main PC where I encountered the probelm I was using Internet Explorer (7 I think). Operating system is Windows XP for both computers.

EDIT: And apologies for including the link in my original post just thought it would be able to show you what the site was.

I get the same sort of problem but I get directed to some site that wants me to do scan's and pop ups saying i have a crazy amount of threats and infections. Cant redirect away from the page at all. Only way to get out is from "task manager" and end the process. It seems to be happening quite frequently the last couple of days. Just to mention I'm using Firefox and Vista Home Premium. Scans are run daily so I'm a bit lost with whats happening.

Just had the same issue here - Vista and Firefox, after opening this thread: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=123182
It just redirected for me and I was able to back out of the site and still read the thread. When I try the thread again it doesn't happen.

It seems to do it when its still loading various things (usually the adverts as they load last) when I open a thread to read. I'm assuming this because it happened within a few seconds of reading the thread.

Thanks for the reports, guys. There seems to be one common denominator between you all: you're outside of the United States and could be seeing localized ads from different networks. It sounds like one of them may be doing something quite unscrupulous - I'll have my provider look into it.

I was viewing the weather thread, when a new tab opened with something about anti-virus software, it showed the My Computer as it appears in Windows XP, then came up with several popups saying things like 'your computer is seriously infected, you must run this scan'. Then it automatically starts downloading this exe setup file to my computer (prompts me where to download and everything). I exit that, then a couple more popups came up and it started downloading again. I eventually close the tab and another popup appears. Then it stopped. :scared:

Just thought you should know, i'm pretty sure it's not my computer, though it could be. I'm running AVG 9.

As I noted here, there seems to be something going on for users outside of the United States. I'm working with my ad company to track down the source of this problem.

randomly redirected to 'http://chinaontv.com/videos/4797.php' today..
occurred whilst submitting quick reply to thread in GTPSP forum.
NSFW?!

Oops, i read that thread, but it didn't occur to me (and still doesn't :dunce:) that it's the same problem. :guilty: I wasn't taking much notice of what site it was at the time i got it, i just wanted to get rid of it. :ouch:

Yes, that's the same website that Speedster was redirected to above.

That's OK, I just merged your thread in to this one.

That's exactly what happens to me :ouch: It's so annoying :grumpy: Damn you evil websites.

Just saying I have had this happen to me today just now. Once on my Vista laptop running Firefox and once on my XP desktop running Firefox. From New Zealand.

For me, it is just a matter of closing the tab and re-opening gtplanet.net and appears to happen randomly, I have just clicked a thread topic as you normally would then it redirects and goes all crazy.

Not sure if this is related or not, but...

Then in one of the threads, an AVG popup said a virus has been found and showed a url, it said at the bottom C:\...firefox.exe

Yeh, I keep getting re-directed, too. It's some external website offering a "free" computer hard drive scan; I'm guessing it also uploads viruses or malware.

I've had this happen many times, and actually get the "scanning c:\...you are seriously infected! blah blah blah" almost daily. The ChinaOnTV redirect happens every other day or so. This is the only site it happens on, and my computer does a spyware/malware scan every other day. Only once has one of the URL's tried uploading a trojan to my computer though (atleast only once that I know of).

Running Windows Vista and the latest IE I believe.

I just got redirected to this site called gardens at night. This one wasn't so bad though, i closed the tab without any trouble.

Yeah sounds exactly like was has happened to me, the site that this crap comes from is shotbix.com.

I was just redirected to the "Antispy Live Scan" page with which I'm sure many of you are familiar. I see from recent posts that the unsolicited redirects have spread from Europe and Australia to North America, so I guess you'll have to track down even more advertising networks.
