KUJU TREATS JAPANESE TO PS3 TEASER
Kuju wows event attendees with a glimpse of an innovative PS3 FPS codenamed Redwood Falls
Britsoft developer Kuju has given a tantalising glimpse of a PlayStation 3 first-person shooter it is working on, provisionally titled Redwood Falls, at a UK trade event held at the British Embassy in Tokyo.
In common with all other demos of PS3 games so far, Redwood Falls appears to more of a technology demo than anything resembling even a portion of a full-blown game. Indeed, speaking to Famitsu.com, Kuju creative director Tancred Dyke-Wells stated that the point of the demo was to show off technology which Kuju has developed.
Attendees were reportedly treated to a short sequence in which an enemy creature was raked with gunfire, to which its body responded in a believable manner, with wounds opening up that exposed the innards of its body and even bones; eventually, body parts started falling off, before the body completely regenerated itself. Dyke-Wells added that the demo could even have included detailed recreations of internal organs, although he wryly added that that may have been somewhat over the top.
Dyke-Wells said that a publisher has yet to be secured for the project, and added that the theme of the game is "Regeneration, not destruction". One would imagine that Redwood Falls stands zero chance of making the PlayStation 3 launch roster, but it does bode well in terms of the innovation and genre-busting which Sony's next-generation console promises to foster.
Kuju's demo was delivered as a part of Play UK 2006, an annual event organised by the British Government designed to showcase the games industry, an initiative which also encompasses the UK Pavilion at E3 each year guys.
