Regarding the General Questions thread...

With all of the complaints (and rightfully so, I might add) form both Moderators and us lowly users regarding the moderating and searchability (is that a word? never mind) of said thread, why hasn't it been locked away long ago? We've heard on many occasions that there should be a one-question-per-thread format but instead we end up with this jumbled mess.

Ideally, the thread would be broken up into Xenu only knows how many threads, but no one is that suicidal. Except for in the morning.

What say ye?
 
Well, I wouldn't exactly call them "complaints"; more like comments. But the all-encompassing giant compendium threads are an unforseen outgrowth of our tendency to lock duplicate threads. For some reason, some users generalize that into a wider disapproval of all new threads.

For the record, Jordan and the staff have nothing against new threads. All we ask is that you check and see if a topic has already been presented before starting your new thread. Any topic is worthy of its own thread if it is worthy of discussion at all - a topic such as some we've seen ("What do your farts smell like" etc. etc. etc. isn't worthy of any discussion, whether in its own thread or part of something larger.

So by all means, if you have a question or comment, do a quick search, and then make a new thread for it!
 
Quite right - "complaints" wasn't the best choice of words, "comments" would have been better. Nonetheless, at least from my perspective, the General Questions thread could easily be locked and a sticky posted stating more or less your second and third paragraphs. 👍
 
100% agree!

I've always thought the "one large thread" was weird and a waste of time.

When this forum first started I used to check in here regularly to see who needed help with something. Not long after it began though, the General Questions thread popped up and I couldn't be bothered searching through that for questions all the time, so I never go in there.

I think separate threads for separate questions is a good idea.
