I have been using a Region 1 PS3 with a GT 5 DVD I bought in Malaysia together with a U.S. PSN account. I recently bought 2 DLC packs using my U.S. PSN account only to find out the Region lock issue afterwards.

If was to change my DVD to a Region 1 DVD in order to download the DLCs, will I lose all my points, settings, vehicles in my garage etc. due to the DVD change or will all my settings be the same under the original PSN account?

Your game save should be fine but just to make sure back it up onto a USB.

Thanks bro for the quick reply. I have over 150 cars and A-level at 34. I'd hate to see all that work go to waste just to be able to download DLCs.
I'll do the thumbdrive backup as you advised, just in case.

I can imagine that it would be quite frustrating. I have never tried it before so I don' know what would happen.

I hate to be the one to say it, but your going to lose everything. Gamesaves can't be region mixed either.

My man, I have almost the exact same problem as you! :dopey:

I am living in Region 3, the exact same country you stated, but playing using a Region 1 disc. I was a noob at this 'region thing', so made a big mistake. I went and bought a Region 3 disc a year later. The guy at the shop said it would run fine(yeah right :grumpy:). Popped the disc in to see that I have to install and download the updates.....again. Tried copying my savegame from the region 1 GT5 to this region 3 GT5 but it won't load. :ouch:

A waste of RM180 right there. :grumpy:

So, my answer is, yes, you will lose all your game save data and you will also need to reinstall and re-download all the updates for the game if you insert a disc of a different Region.

The PS3 recognizes a Region 3 disc and a Region 1 disc of the same game as different games.

Hope this helps man.

Thanks guys, you saved my day in the nick of time. Busted $12 on 2 DLCs downloaded into never never land. I wish they warned me about this beforehand, or before purchasing online. To say the warning was posted elsewhere in hidden in some notice or the other and 'buyer beware' is really crappy design.

It used to be region, DVD and account locked. Now there is free dlc for all accounts on the same ps3. I'll check if my US account on my region 3 DVD have the dlc later. Will let u know later. If it works, then u can either buy a region 1 DVD or create an Asia psn account, rebuy the dlc and you may get the dlc in your main save account.
As either cost money, let me try this out.

Nah man I'll save you the trouble It won't work, I have Hong Kong and American myself. :indiff:

Am I the only one noticing this?...DVD? Isn't GT5 in a blu-ray? :dunce:

It works. After the free family pack dlc, my car pack, course pack, car pack 3 and test track is available for my 2 Asian account and 1 US account. My ps3 is region 3, DVD region 3 and account region 1 and 3. Bought dlc with Asian region 3 account.
That is a change from the previous situation before the family pack dlc.

PS3 is region free. You have to buy DLC from the region your game is from though eg UK game must have DLC purchased from UK store.

I just tried it and yes I can see American DLC with a Hong Kong account and an American Disc, I mis-read your comment before, I thought we were talking about an Asian account running American DLC with an Asian Disc. :dunce: It looks like its safe to say as long as you buy the DLC from the same country as the disc, you can use it for any account regardless of the country. This is useful information for people using the incorrect region disc. 👍

I only wish I can share my American DLC with my Hong Kong account and HK disc. :indiff:
