What an unexpected turn of events today:

Wake Up.
Turn Monitor On
See That somehow the comp rebooted and is now on a error message that sez "NT something or other Not Found, Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to retry"
Push CTRL+ALT+DEL.
See the same message, freak out.
Get the Windows CD ready.
Sit for 5 min pondering how much work its gonna take to replace all my shortcuts and get http://mistax.net up again.
Put CD in, and waste the hour and a half to install it.

And here I am. All pissed off on a empty looking XP...

I'm just glad I didn't have to format :D

hahahh be glad u didnt
my bros friend had to COMPLETELY take my puter apart just to install XP

You mean he had to open up your case to install Windows XP? Sounds like your brother's friend is on some bad ****.

no he had to take the hard drives out put them on his puter and diagnose the drive to he could install XP on it, the BIOS was old too.....

BIOS has nothing to do with you're drives, thats your motherboard.

If he works for apple and can program PCs theres something wrong.

the bios was OLD so he had to update it, i forgot how but it was needed so he could intstall XP, yeah he works for apple, but he also know how to work on PCs
apple paid him to move here from texas and work in apple's HQ

Ah, I know what he did.
He used a special BIO's removal tool and took the BIOs chip out from the board and popped a new one in.
Pretty simple as long as you have the tool. (I don't)

Mr. jerome says:
scot u there?
s c o t says:
no
Mr. jerome says:
aight i'll leave a message
Mr. jerome says:

Mr. jerome says:

Mr. jerome says:

s c o t says:

Mr. jerome says:
i just wanted to know how u did it, dont worry nothings rong
s c o t says:
updated the bios and did the install pretty much
s c o t says:
just took a while to fiugre out i needed to update the bios
Mr. jerome says:
but why did u have to remove the harddrive?
scot:
i thought it would help, but it was the bios that was old and xp didnt recognize it...

but dont worry im gonna plan on buying a water cooled puter, maybe p4 or athlon, (cuzin works at frys) :)

He probably had to update the bios so he could make the computer bootable to the CD drive, since thats how you have to install it if you dont have the boot disks.....

he didnt want to use A: drive, trust me my bro's friend knows lots of puter ****, he works on linux,unix,pc's,and apple/macs..... he says he's planning on trashing his pc, cuz apple is now based on linux....

MistaX ... how much of your software is warezed? After about two years of using MOSTLY pirated software, it's not worth your time. If you're going to steal software, at a minimum you must borrow an ACTUAL CD. Trust nothing that you get 'from the Internet' - not even one piece of software. As I run through my current list of installed software, the only thing I didn't have a real CD for during installation was Paragon CD Emulator. Nearly as I can tell, everything else was borrowed or purchased. I haven't had a problem in over a year. Not even a software crash that I can remember.

Yes but you arn't opening yourself up to viruses like MistaX. Pireted software is not the problem. IIS and other servers have inherant security flaws, becuase they constantly have open ports.

Mista:

Why didn't you back up your **** before? Copy the files to another folder and do it that way? If you couldn't access the emergency command prompt (insert your cd, click troubleshooting on restart... emergency restore ect.) why ddin't you backup on another computer (remove HD, install in other, copy files over.) ?

You also realize that the CD will also run through your directory and replace any files that are corrupted or missing? That would have solved your problem as well without the headache.

Apple is based on Apple. They developed everything themselves. They have been around since the founder broke from billy gates to form apple, around the time of microsofts start, given a couple years...

Linux is based on UNIX, an old (and still used) server platform

s c o t says:
i am now
s c o t says:
sup fool ?
Mr. jerome says:
ahaha what is apple based on now ?
Mr. jerome says:
linux
s c o t says:
do you really want to know ?
Mr. jerome says:
i guess
s c o t says:
the underlying operating system is called Darwin
s c o t says:
its a Mach 3.0 based kernel with a BSD translation layer
Mr. Jerome says:
LOST
s c o t says:
its much like linux
Mr. Jerome says:
but its easier to use then pc's xp right?
s c o t says:
it can do almost everything linux can
s c o t says:
yep
s c o t says:
MacOS has been around about 10 years more than windows
Mr. Jerome says:
but is it based on linux?
s c o t says:
It was the first consumer computer with a graphical interface
s c o t says:
no its not based on linux
s c o t says:
its based on Darwin, which is very much like unix, just like Linux is very much like Unix
Mr. Jerome says:
oh....
Mr. Jerome says:
i get it
s c o t says:
just like BMW and Mecedes are both cars
Mr. Jerome says:
yes i know
Mr. Jerome says:
hey what u think about a water cooled puter>?
s c o t says:
both darwin and linux are opensourced so you can open them up and tweak them
s c o t says:
Windows is like a car you bought that you cant open the hood
s c o t says:
you have to trust it has a good air filter
s c o t says:
and if you want a different one you have to wait a few years and buy a different car
s c o t says:
why do you ask ?
Mr. Jerome says:
i think i want to learn more about puters
Mr. Jerome says:
or be a game devolper
s c o t says:
to be a game developer you will have to learn more
Mr. Jerome says:
i know
s c o t says:
you can get linux for the PS2
Mr. Jerome says:
yeah u told me about that
s c o t says:
http://developer.apple.com/darwin/history.html
s c o t says:
that tells you the story about Darwin
s c o t says:
I work on this everyday and its my primary job right now
Mr. Jerome says:
or i want to do what my cuzin does
Mr. Jerome says:
testing games for EA
s c o t says:
thats a totally different animal
Mr. Jerome says:
no he's using that to get his foot in the door
Mr. Jerome says:
aitght thanks for the info DOOD

~~~~~~~
there just to prove im not B-s'n
Learn something new every day. I knew it was around longer than windows since they used DOS for a long time.
Oh, the GUI idea was lifted off of one of the fax manufacturers (can't remember which) but Mac developed it faster once they checked out the software, and drove them out before production.
Anyone know what happened to that "Doors" OS?
Linux is fun if you are willing to learn how to controll it. Mac's are better than windows, but don't get games as fast, that's the only reason I am running windows.
I didn't lose any software, It's just the stuff windows had, ya know, IE favs, desktop shortcuts, start menu items.
I lost no stuff besides that.
Oh and how much of it is warez?
Win XP Pro, err.. my FTP prog, Mem turbo.. thats about all that i use everyday that i gots for free :)
DONT REPORT ME TO M$.
