I understand movies now days. How they rely too much on special effects.
But I watched Le Mans with Steve Mcqueen, and was thinking it could use a sequel, or remake..
---------------------------------------------------
Why a Sequel?
Continue off into the next generation, Mcqueen's son didn't followed his father's footsteps. He's an amazing driver, however he was caught up in the wrong stuff. His father's old friend one day confronts him and shows him who his father was. He never met him since he died before he was old enough to get to know him.
He is convinced to get back on his feet and train.
Problems:
The old Le Mans was an amazing movie because of it's authentic footage of real racing. And the classic cars that raced there. A sequel would have to try and do the same thing with cars of now days and make them memorable.
---------------------------------------------------
Why a remake?
Simple, because the 917 was an amazing car, especially the Ferrari 330.They're legends.
Problems:
Many of the classic cars are collector's items and so, you would not be able to be authentic enough, and have to rely on CG..
No Mcqueen behind thew wheel, is like Terminator with no Arnold.
---------------------------------------------------
Effects: Now, people hate the overuse of CG, and I can understand that. Many times directors use it for scenes that dont even require it.
Many say it ruins it, and it makes it look fake. But sometimes you cant use a million dollar car and crash it, or a very rare car aswell.
But I think we can take a different approach. Look at GT3, 4, and 5. Why did those games look so real? Camera work and live racing.
Compare that to movies like the ridiculous "Driven". Driven's CG was too stylized, too fake. Imagine if they hired good programmers like PD, and make a game engine that allowed actors to actually race each other in a virtual environment with real physics and play out all the racing scenes in the virtual world? Then the computer can render out all the lighting after the director does the virtual camera work.
Nothing will be hand animated. It would be like Avatar's technology where they had actors playing the parts rather than just voice work. Except the actors would do actual racing, just in a virtual world. All movements will be realistic, no crazy camera work, just real human reaction.
---------------------------------------------------
One thing for sure is, we need more love for motorsports from Hollywood.
