RENNSPORT PS5 – Official response regarding offline mode and long-term game preservation
I recently contacted the RENNSPORT team to ask whether a fully offline mode could eventually be implemented, particularly for the physical PS5 edition.
My main concern is game preservation. I would like to purchase the physical edition, but knowing that even single-player races against AI require an internet connection and server authentication makes me hesitant.
Tim Ireland kindly responded with the following explanation:
“Regretfully a fully offline mode would require large rewrites of the game code. All content is tied to a RENNSPORT account which has to be synced when login and making the game totally offline would require a massive restructuring of how that would work.”
I then asked whether the developers might consider releasing a final offline patch if RENNSPORT’s online services were ever discontinued, allowing owners of the physical edition to continue playing against AI.
His response was:
“I have no idea if that’s been talked about internally if I’m honest so I cant give you an answer with any degree of accuracy. All I know is that for now at least it is not something we are considering spending development time on.”
Before sharing this information publicly, I asked Tim for permission. He confirmed:
“This was the answer I was given when I double checked with my boss over the weekend so feel free to use it.”
What we can conclude:
I appreciate Tim’s transparency and his willingness to clarify the situation.
However, I find it concerning that a physical PS5 game could potentially become completely unplayable if its online services were discontinued.
For me, this is currently the main reason not to purchase RENNSPORT.
What do other players think? Should physical console releases guarantee access to their single-player content without relying on external servers?

What we can conclude:
- Implementing a fully offline mode would require substantial changes to the game’s architecture.
- The team is not currently planning to dedicate development resources to this.
- There is no confirmed plan for an end-of-life offline patch.
- The possibility of such a patch in the future has not been definitively ruled out.
I appreciate Tim’s transparency and his willingness to clarify the situation.
