I'm really into renting DVDs. I used to collect DVDs, but the collection just kept on growing and growing. It was getting pretty ridiculous, so I switched to renting, while only buying DVDs I really like.

I rent my movies from my local Blockbuster. I purchased their $10, "Preferred" membership years ago. They actually collected the $10 just twice, and been giving me "Preferred" for free. With this membership, they give you free rentals, left and right. 👍 I've always liked visiting video store, like, since I was a kid. And Blockbuster's my current favorite.

Has anyone tried Netflix or Blockbuster Online? I've tried Netflix and it's a very good service. Very efficient, speedy service. I'm on the free month trial with Blockbuster Online right now. Out of the 13 or so "available/in stock" movies I've selected, they totally ignored my prioritized movies and sent me selections from all over my list. My buddy warned me about this, he was right.

Anyways. How do you rent your movies? Any stories or information you have on renting movies?

My parents have Netflix, and they love it. When they were in Europe last summer, I used their subscription, and it was really, really nice. They have a huge selection, and are quick. I'd recommend it 👍

Ditto.
I have Netflix and I'm not dissapointed at all 👍

Ciao!

BLOCKBUSTER?!? That place is akin to the pit of hell. Literally. Gross horror movies EVERYWHERE.

I'm considering to get NetFlix, since BB doesn't have all the good movies in stock, and like I said, it's akin to the pit of hell.

The good thing about Blockbuster Online is free in-store rentals once a week, which can be used to rent games as well. ;)

I had blockbuster online, then i had netflix online. They both did the same thing; about the third month my movies started taking really long to get to my house even though i had about 50 in my list. i cancelled both and now i just rent in-store blockbuster whenever i feel like i want to watch a movie.

I rent my movies from a local video store. They rent brand new movies (just released, but less than 30 days old) for $2 for one night, new (older than 30 days, but still popular) for $2 for 7 nights and the rest are $.87 for 7 days.

Great prices + decent selection = one happy TB.

Geeze, they must get a lot of business.

I don't rent movies, just games. Whats BS is that at Blockbuster, in order to rent an Xbox 360 game they must have a credit card number on your record just in case you decide not to return the game  You also can't have more than one 360 game rented out at a time.

Blockbuster Online.
Had it for two months so far, it's fantastic. Get 1-3 movies, watch them, mail 'em back off, and the next ones always comes with 3 days. Haven't disappointed yet.

When I was at University, we couldn't get a TV picture in one house that I rented, so we rented films instead from an independent video shop at the end of our road. I saw loads of good, bad and indifferent films that year, it was a real education.

Convenience was a major factor, though. If I wanted to go to a video store now, I'd have to get in the car. So I don't. Plus DVDs are so cheap now, I'd rather look in the £5 bin and keep the DVD than spend £2.50 and have to get in the car again to take it back. It makes you more selective.

I have netflix, and its great. I wish I had more time to watch the movies though... :indiff:

They hold 20 dollars when you hire out a movie / game here, and return it when you return the game.

Once, I returned a game and told them to leave it on credit for me. Believe it or not, I came back 5 months later and got 20 bucks in hand :dopey:

Really? I rented out 2 360 games a few weeks ago (Table Tennis and Ridge Racer 6), and they let me rent them like any other game.

While I rent gazillion movies from Blockbuster, I had never rented a game before until about month ago. My kid brother wanted me to rent "Black" for PS2, so I did. I think it was 5, 6 dollars, but the guy said that I have a "free rental" and if I wanted to use it. I'm pretty honest( ), so I asked "isn't that just for DVDs?". He said it goes thru the computer, so don't worry about it. So, only game I've ever rented, it was free!:cool:

Edit:
Dude! I got my second shipment from Blockbuster Online and they ignored my top choice, again! This never happened with the Netflix trial. They always sent me the movies I asked for. :grumpy:

I go up to the local video shop (only one in a town of 10,000+) 'Video Ezy' and usually rent out five weekly DVD's for $10. Occasionally they send out these voucher things so you can get five for $5.

But now i've seen pretty much all the weekly ones i want to see (they don't stock all the movies i want either, like Robocop). I might have to start renting out the two day ones ($8 for one i think or $12 for two).

And membership to this chain of video stores is free and you get free (game and movie) rentals every now and then. :)

I used to go to Video Ezy down the road, but I joined up to Blockbuster a few days ago. Not sure which I prefer, yet. All I know is Blockbuster does not have ‘Adult’ movies lining the shelves with New Releases like Video Ezy does.

Our one doesn't, they have a seperate, enclosed, area for that i think.

Where I'm at, Blockbuster not only doesn't carry "adult" titles, they lack somewhat edgy titles as well. Only other local video shop I rent from(like once a year, if that) is another giant rental chain(from Oregon!), "Hollywood Video". They have a lot cooler titles, but I never go there to rent, because it's like $4 a title. As for Blake's "Video Ezy", those adult titles are probably not X-Rated. If they were, I'm pretty sure there's a law in place to prevent them from doing that.

Blockbuster used to have a horror title called "Land of the Dead". They took it off the shelf after just week or so after the release! I got to ask them about that. :grumpy:

Choices or Blockbusters. The Blockbusters nearest to me now is a large store with plenty of old films and a lot of games titles, so is pretty good. The one near to where i used to live was a small store which had just new 'chart' films and games and very few older 'classic' films, in fact, most of the DVD's were along the lines of 'The Erotic Witch Project' or 'Ocean's 69' - which whilst offering a few giggles at the titles were never going to be rented by anyone.

We use the mom'n'pop store down the road to rent our movies. Its great for us since its rent 1, get the 2nd for $2 and the owner has known me since I was 6 and always waves the late fee's for us. Whats even better is he sometimes puts movies on the shelf the day before they're suppose to come out, so I get to watch em 1 day early. :D 👍

I rent the occasional film but I buy DVD's more often in special offers, it doesn't cost much more than a rental most of the time, and I'm a sucker for special editions.

HMV or Virgin sales are a killer - i've stacks of DVD's of films i've seen before and liked so thought i should buy as well since it was 'cheap'

Netflix here as well. Have been using it for a couple years now with no complaints, and we love it!

Tell me about it, I went to HMV last week picked up the 3 disk Gladiator box set for £5.99, the Jack Ryan collection all 4 films for £9.99 and 3 other single disk films for £9.99. 8 films for under £26.

I managed to restrain myself at HMV this weekend - £2.99 for 'Animatrix'

Its nice to own things ;)

My other half uses Screenselect.co.uk. Her particular option allows her a maximum of three titles at any one time, but an unlimited number overall. As fast as she can watch 'em and send 'em back, they'll send 'em out again - but she can only have three in the house at once.
