Replays. Not as classy as past gt games and more technical.

Just popped in gt4, and noticed how the replays play out. Stars out with a black screen and the name of the car and track, then the text fades out and it slowly fades into the replay. Like you put on a DVD, or a showcase video.

GT5 feels like your the guy behind the scenes having to go through switches and wires just to change the car angle.
Overall, it's still crazy how complicated PD made the replay controls..

I think GT3 had the best looking replays. There were a number of camera options to choose from. By memory, one setting used a wide angle shot to show more of the track, another showed battles between cars (and automatically switched between different cars on the track), then there was the setting which synchronised camera angles with the Background Music, and there was the normal setting which we see in GT5.

So yes, GT5 has a rubbish replay system compared to GT3. There is also very little hot keys, so changing between cars can be a pain.

Also the cameras that were mounted behind the front tires so you could watch brake glow in effect. 👍

Nice avatar BTW.

I got no qualms about the replay in GT5 but I have to agree the replay controls are less straightforward compared to the previous GTs (e.g. using the d-pad to switch between cars)!

also in gt3 split screen race replays could be viewed in split screen or full screen with lead car in focus

GT1's replays looked the best. Why?

Because your driving was usually good enough to make them look awesome. :D

I think you could also do this in GT1 and 2. I don't quite understand how over a decade later we have lost so many great replay features.

I think I remember that. 👍 Also, in GT3 we had heat wave effects coming off the track, which looked really good. I know it was over-exaggerated (especially on Laguna Seca), but do we still have these effects in GT5? I haven't noticed it.

I also loved the shaky cameras in GT3.

lol, thanks. Kevin rocks my socks. 👍

GT5 took 1 step forward but 2 steps back. The core game is great but the lack of repeat features from previous titles kills it. :grumpy:

Yeah this is just one of the few things that annoys me in the game :(

I won't be looking forwards to GT6 anyway, then when it comes out in however many decades I won't have any kind of expectations :p

I don't see how it kills GT5, but it does make me want them back.

The easy replay functions of previous games. Want to switch cars, up or down on the D pad. Fast forward in GT4, there's a button for it.

The best trackside replay camera angles as I recall were in GT2 and 3. Very cinematic, without the silly extreme closeups every so often. There are also way too many shots with the camera just a few feet off the ground, not nearly enough which properly show your car approaching from a good angle. Kaz needs to have the team do an update which includes some better replay camera settings.

I agree completely except for one thing: GT3 had this horrible blending effect when switching cars, I liked that a lot more in GT4.

I would say that GT4 had better replays but GT5 did a good job with the interior replay views showing the driver using the H pattern manual clutch as well as the paddle shifts.

I really miss the option to turn the soundtrack on and off during replays.

Also, it automatically changing cars, like a real race transmission on TV.

Very valid complaints, but at least the 'soul' is still there. GT5 is the only racing game that captures the little nuances of the car exceptionally well. This is one thing F4 cant do right...and makes replays boring to watch. Not the case with GT5.

I hate how the camera views aren't random. I just hate it.

I THINK they're random for Course Maker tracks because the first time I tried out the rewind feature at Mt. Aso, I saw a different camera view for the turn I wanted to see.

Didn't GT2 have a cool birds eye view straight down at the car? (god I WISH I hadn't lost my GT2 disk :( )
