What is the point when a Mod replies in a locked thread, yet keeps the thread locked?

I mean, is it an excercising of Mods powers to reply where no one else can reply. Isn't a topic/thread closed because people have nothing to add, or shouldn't add more to it?

My point is that if you're going to reply in a locked thread, you're obviously adding up something to said thread, and thus, should leave it open to discussion.

Sometimes mods will post a final comment just to let everyone know why the thread was closed. I've only seen a few examples of mods adding to a discussion then closing the thread. They're just teasing you.

Can you point an example out? The only one I've seen was the GTPGCT, but a thread was later opened to discuss the closure.

I only recall seeing it if one mod wished give some member a sterner warning than the initial one saw fit to:

...or occasionally to give the OP a little more help than was made available before the initial locking.

...and sometimes just to chat or say thanks.

That one doesn't count. Famine and I both posted at roughly the same time there. He locked it, so when I clicked the lock thread button, I actually opened it again, and then had to re-lock it.

We can post in a thread even though it is locked so sometimes we can do it without realising.

Heres another example that really pissed me off!

Sphinx accusing me of having some kind of racist slant, oh and I couldn't reply because it was then locked by Famine (I was told). I don't even get why the thread was locked, no explanation no nothing!

Well Sphinx, heres my answer posted in the premium chat thread if your ever bothered to have a look at it! :grumpy:

If mods ask a question or make a remark the person should have the opportunity to reply.... full stop.

Actually you can see in that link that Diego raised this even back then and I agree 100% with him!

I have reopened threads in order to allow further discussion after I had something to add to a locked thread. I've been slammed for doing that too. I believe, as daan says, we are often damned if we do and damned if we don't. So we do what seems best under the specific circumstances.

Did you ever consider sending Sphinx a private message, to find out why he felt that the thread needed to be closed? From simply browsing the thread, I don't see why he did, but I am sure that he has some justification for his actions, and I always encourage our staff members to both defend and be critical of their decisions when appropriate.

To respond to your post, however, that numerical "code" looks like a memory location where an error was found. I seriously doubt that Polyphony anticipated that an end user would ever encounter such a message, but if they did, the developers will at least be able to track down its location. It's actually a pretty smart thing for them to do, and is a form of run-time error checking provided by many different types of software.

Thankyou for the reply Jordan, I didn't consider sending a PM but in future I will consider doing that. Although as the 'accused' in a way I feel that the other party should be making the effort.

It just was annoying at the time because you want to explain things or respond to an accusation but you can't in the thread and you also don't know why it was closed which I suppose you could also ask in a PM but they should be explaining it when the thread is closed (most of the time they do).

As for those error codes I found out only after making that post that it does explain slightly what the error code means in Japanese above the code, if thats the case having a code is kinda useless and confusing but as you said im sure PD never intended people to really look at it and its probably more for them than us!

Sometimes I miss the closed tags, and go ahead and post, then after noticing I just posted in a closed thread I just think: meh. And I go grab a cup of coffee.

Sometimes a cookie too.

👍

Or two.

I didn't close the thread. I believe Famine did, without any prompting from myself I must add.

As for my comment in that thread, Robin.; The thought of anyone being racist didn't even enter my head until I read this thread. I'm sorry you took it the wrong way. I was simply fed up of people bitching and moaning about a game that was only intended for the JPN market, nothing more. :)

Feel free to PM me if there is anything further that you wish to add. 👍
