Restarting before ever reaching 100%

I'm still playing my first game save and have not reached 100%. Of course, I only got the game back in December and was just playing it on the weekends until just a month ago (I didn't have a TV in my apartment with RCA connections before but at my mom's I did).

I'm currently at 85% or so and am kinda stuck and a little discouraged. I know I can finish the rest of the Pro League that doesn't require the S-License but after that I'll be stuck for quite awhile. I was considering starting all over again and figured if I put in more time on the beginner and amateur leagues using cars that barely beat the AI instead of destroying it and riding the walls I might develop the skills to get that final 10%.

Did any of you restart before reaching 100% for the first time?

I didn't. But I know the frustration of trying to get the S License. I quit trying from early on in Amateur until I actually needed it later, and found it to be easier. No golds there, though.

If you slashed and burned your way through the beginning, I'd say start again without finishing this game, and play for tighter races.

When I restart it will be almost like a different game, because I plan on using a wheel. I got my wheel during the Pro races and I just couldn't be competitive in the really fast cars. So I figure I'll start from scratch and relearn how to drive.

I'm going to try first off to gold the A License, then use the Mariner Blue Miata prize car as my first ride.

I did. I got bored with the long races approx. at 83% and found myself not playing GT3 anymore, though I still did have a passion for it. After a month or so I took the big decision, deleted my game and started once again.

I never did regret it. Second time around was even much more fun and without the frustration coming from driving 500 laps on Super Speedway to earn cash. Without much trouble I took my Miata from race to race and winning and upgrading, winning and upgrading. The licenses was now relative easy as my driving skills had improved considerable.

Second time I went to 99% only missing the Time Trial at Complex. Then I engaged in On Line Racing to keep me in the game as was determined to get to the 100 this time. After a 5 race tournament I went back to Complex and beat it in the first session. What a joy. :D

I restarted the first time I tried to get 100%. It was getting hard, and it was boring doing the same races over to get money. For me, it was much more fun playing the second time around. It was a lot easier, and I have had the joy of reaching 100%.

I "restarted" my game at about 94%, due to the fact that my memory card was corrupted. What a sad day that was, but in a way it was good because I had a chance to actually race instead of riding the walls with my overpowered Mustang and Espirit. I had some good stuff on that save, a Zonda Racer(got it back), a great Mini that I used for rallys (got it back too), some F1s (Had the black Senna F1 that he crashed in at Imola, still missing that one), and a few race and street cars with great setups.
Well, now I am back to about 70% using more fun cars and generally taking my sweet time with the game, enjoying it and making it last untill GT4 is released. Right now Im having fun with trying to get all golds on liscence exams. Ick.

Oh, and I have another file for Hybrids and such, its at like 30% but thats with cheating.

Not sure about this, but did you mean to say B License? Sorry to be a stickler, I'm just confused.

im at 83% now not many races to go... i have golds in some of the licences there dosnt seem to be enough of the game left to get the 100%???? and the long races are getting boring. and I keep getting crappy prize cars not the ones i want. when i save progress in a race so i can go back and win a diferent car it dosnt seem to have saved so im back at the start! restarting might be the plan... or just use another memory card. i find i only play 3 or 4 times a month now compared to everyday. At least some of my other games are being played.. I only bought a ps2 for GT3! and now gt4 is coming one day one day soon i hope!

Ceiling Fan, B license does indeed give the Mariner Blue MX5 which is a very good car for the beginner races. Better still is the Mazda RX8 that is the prize car for the A license.

Do you know there are 2 different save buttons? When you are in a series, between each race, there are all the icons for what you can do next. One has a camera on it to save the replay. The one you want has a memory card on it - that one saves your game between those races so you can pick up at the same point when you come back.

If you exit the series and save using the regular save menu, then YES, you will have to restart the series.

Which I am a mere 27/1000ths of a second away from owning...
:banghead:
All of my top 6 A7 times are below 14.300" - and none of them are below 14.200"!

I didn't. You just gotta keep on trying.

Yeah, that's what I did. I actually have all 48 golds. Plus I've won a few regular races and gotten cars too. So right now I have about 15% of the game done, I'm sitting on about 160 grand, and I have 16 cars total...none of which have I paid a dime for. I tried and tried and tried forever to get B8 and I finally got it. Then I started the Sunday cup with it and a few other races and went back and forth between racing and doing the licenses. Trust me, the satisfaction is amazing! It feels great having won all that and I think the only money I've spent so far is a couple oil changes. I even ran my little ol B license Miata in the Roadster Endurance to win my F688/s. Heh, my first F1 car only about 8% into the game, now that felt really awesome!

I've been a little confused about these races the whole time. Because you can pick that first thing that will take you through all of them, or you can choose them one by one. What happens if you do them all individually? Do you not get a prize car? I wanted to do them all 1 at a time and stuff like that but I don't want to waste my time if I'm not going to get a car after all ten only to find out that I'd have to go back and do the series race all over again. Can you clear this up for me?

You can run the event as a series, or as individual races. If you do them individually you will not get a prize car or the championship purse, but you will get the money for each race.

You need to go through the series race, but you don't need to do it in one sitting. As I described above there is a way to save between rounds so that you can turn off the PS2 and come back to the same point next time you fire it up.

Also, if there is only one prize car (like in the Cup races, 3 individual races) you will only ever win ONE copy of that car. But if you win a Series event, where there is the prize car roulette wheel, you can will get a prize car for every time you rewin the series. Which car you get is random, but if you search on this board for "save and reload" you can keep reloading the game from the next-to-last race until you get the car you want.

:( i made that exact mistake man!!! i sold my trueno ss version... and now i regret it as i hear its one of the best cars to use for driftin, i guess ill have to restart the game to get it again eh:banghead: but i assume ill be more fun cos im gettin the official steering whaeel soon:D

I decided to restart the game although I kept the 85% save on one memory card. Which means no cheating with the free upgrades using two memory cards trick, and it definitely is more fun! Still can't get that damn B8 gold :banghead: but I got my A, B, IB and IA licenses all in a couple of hours! Even got silver in a couple of the harder tests too...Just for practice I did each test at least twice except for the IA7 and IA8.

I ended up just buying an MX-5 Miata instead of winning the B License LS Miata, I know if I just worked at B8 long enough (only 0.213 s off from gold :irked: ) I could go to the Roadster Endurance and get my 100,000 Cr...

In my first game I bought a used memory card from someone (new ones were impossible to find) and it happened to have a GT3 save on it. I buoght a fully upgraded Miata from it early on, and I felt so guilty I never did it again!

Silly, but true...

Alright duke, another question. Say I had completed a series race and got a prize car and everything. Now, if I go back and run the series again to get a different car...will it add those golds to my collection again? Like in the 'game status' screen, if I've got 34 golds and I go run a 5 race series I'll end up with a prize car and 39 golds. But should I choose to go back again would my gold total rise to 44 golds or would it just stay at 39? I'm curious because right now I have a 1:1 ratio for golds and days. I'm at day 80 in the game right now and I have 79 golds. I don't want to ruin my streak...yet. I wanna see how far I can go without losing once or wasting any days.

I have restarted a couple of times. It is actually good, because you learn things that make the next time around more rewarding, and since you are a better driver (hopefully) you can progress through the races more quickly.

The key thing on my last restart was getting all golds on the 1a and 1b license tests. After I had the Mazda RX-8, I blew through a good chunk of the Amateur and Beginner races, then got my A, B, and S licenses. I only have golds partway through the B tests, and the rests are bronze...except for one lone silver finish. I got stuck on the S curve tests in the Ruf RGT on Complex string with the ACM and TCS and have done even worse on the next test which is the same car on without ACM and TCS. I am going to wait until I get the Driving Force Pro to do those again.

As far as the rest goes, once I got the Super License, I reran the Super Speedway 150 with my Ruf 3400 and was awarded the F090/s on the first try. Previous attempts with less than the S license failed to get the coveted F1 prize. I am now up to 50% complete and have on more race on the MR Professional to do. I got tired last night. Moving wore me out.

I am saving the Rally licenses and races for last as they were pretty easy to beat and I want to do them with the DFP anyway.

i think im gonna do that even tough its a pain:( , ive lost too many good cars, and i just smashed through begginer with overpowerd cars which killed evryone. i think ill start again a nd go for competition rather that outright win.

👍 👍 👍
I actually came to that conclusion in a roundabout way. At first, I was trying to beat the game using only prize cars, without buying more than required.

That led me to running the Camaro racecar I got as a prize (only American car I owned, this being a Japanese game) in the Beginner Stars & Stripes. It was such a blowout that I realized it was no fun sightseeing, even when you're guaranteed a win.

iv sold way too many prize cars, including the trueno s.s version.... which i effing regret now. cos ive started driting and i regret it. i also lost or sold??? the rx-8 somehow!
