In my job as a Property Consultant I see many people retiring as they come up to the age of 60-65. Many have large expensive homes which they sell to generate a large amount of capital. Most will either move to another country (usually Spain or France). Somebody I spoke to today said he has over £250,000 spare from the sale of his house (after buying a property in mainland Spain). He also said he has always wanted a Ferrari GTO which he was picking up that day. It really made me think about what I will do when I retire. Hopefully I will be successful and can afford to buy a very expensive classic car.

Anyone here have any dreams for when they retire?

Not really, to be frank. I don't want to sell my house and travel the country in a motorhome; I don't want to move to another country (not even to another state, because I'm that boring); I don't want to live the rest of my life on the Pacific Coast Trail.

In fact, I'm not sure if I'll even really retire. What I'll probably do is formally retire from a full-time job, then take a part-time position. I can't stand being idle for too long, so it would kill me to completely stop working for the rest of my life. I'm not so hyper though that I'd want to do an immense amount of traveling.

I really want to get a great job, like an Optometrist and secure my future. I think I would only retire when my children are married and are in a good situation. I wouldn't travel in my elder age. I would spend some money and get myself a car, I can take out on the weekend.

Still that's over 50 years from now. 👍

I'm sure I will never stop working. Even if I do voluntary work, I want to keep myself busy. I will probably take a few nice holidays but I will never move abroad. I love living in England. Couldn't live anywhere else .

I don't plan a retirement. I'ed rather accomplish everything I want to before I'm 50.

Well I don't plan on retirement either, but If I had to, I'd like a nice house, with an RX-7 sitting in the driveway, thats all I'd ever want.

4 words:

Ferrari Enzo.

yeah .. riiiiight.

I want to travel young-ish (I've already travelled a fair bit but still, more!) and blow all my money while I can still enjoy it, yet leave enough so I'm secure-ish. Knowing me I'll proably die young and retirement won't be an issue.

Although with the state of pensions right now. Many of us in the UK will be lucky to have a half decent pension. I'm 24 and should already be paying in to it. I'm not and my future isn't going to be very bright if I don't start soon. Or win the Lotto!

After my wife and I go t married last year, we started a retirement fund. We put away 5-10%: half into savings, and we invest half of that in a long-term portfolio. I can only hope that will pay for a nice home with land in the country, a Lexus GS750 (whatever it is by then), and plenty of time to travel the world, or even go back to school.

On the other hand, the majority of you teenagers haven't been in the workplace all that long, so realize this: You're likely to work for the next 40-50 years ...retirement will look awfully good in the horizon!

Of course, you could become a multi-millionaire, or a street urchin and not work, too.

Thats everyones plan, to win the lotto. It always happens to someone else and not you, unless you are the people who win, then everybody else doesn't win and you do. :dopey:

word. retirement kills. if we ever stopped working we'd wither and die with no purpose.
