Nice to see something differnet.

Some details from IGN
-3D Pointing. Sensors understand up, down, left, right, forward and backward.
-Tilt Sensitive. Controller can be rotated or rolled from side-to-side.
-Buttons Included. Has a trigger on its backside, face buttons, and a D-Pad.
-Multifunctional. Has an expansion port which can be used with different types of controller peripherals. Analog stick with two trigger buttons planned for left hand.
-Wireless. Totally wire-free. Currently there are no details on the max distance, source or power, or otherwise.
-Rumble Built-in. Included as a standard in all the controllers.

Some pictures.

Some other stuff to read.

My first impression? Hey, I can put the money towards PS3/GT5 instead! Well, then I read the article and I've turned around 180 degrees. This thing is just amazing. In the article on Metroid demo, it talks about how you move the character with the left analog stick, but you look around and aim with the controller. Genius! I don't think this new system will work with 100% of the games, especially games like GT, but I think it'd definitely be a huge upgrade on most games. I mean, can you imagine playing sword fighting games or first-person shooters with the new controllers? I can't wait! :D

First time I played a game with D-Pad(cross-directional button) was a Nintendo Famicom(NES) and their game watches. First time I used the analog sticks were on Nintendo N64. I really think this is the new step forward in the console controller technology. Now, only if they can come up with strong third party titles........ ;)

I knew if there was one person on the world who would like it, it would be you a6m5.:P

I think it's a mistake. How will I make a u-turn in driving games? :dopey::crazy:

edit: I suggest you do not click those links, MAJOR spyware from that site. Including installers.. beware!

You wouldn’t have to twist your hand backwards to make a u-turn – you’d just go left and stay on the gas (like a normal car, or a normal D-pad).

Very, very cool – amazingly intuitive, I would imagine. Accolades for Nintendo! :)

Too little, too late. Thanks, anyways. :(

Did you guys actually read the article? If Nintendo and third-parties could come up with the right softwares, I think this is the next big step. At this point, I'm hugely dissapointed PS3 and X360 doesn't have this feature.....

I think too many people are concerned with how a controller looks. When the PS3 controller was first shown, people were all like "OMG, WTF, Boomerang, GO SUCK IT SONY" and things like that. All this without even holding it or seeing how it really feels and plays.

Same thing now with the Revo controller. Yes, it looks a little different than what we're currently accustomed to. But, its how it works, not how it looks, that matters. And, if it does everything as well as they're hinting it will, this will be amazing.

No, it probably won't do sports games, racing games, or other generic games that well. But really, does anyone really go to "Big N" for their racing fix, or Madden??? No, they have the PS and XB for those. Nintendo is all about the "other" games. And with this now, they have a much more intimate way of getting in those games.

I used to have a one-handed controller on my PS1. I got it just for Final Fantasy games. It was great. Those games require very little action, and it worked wonderful. This controller could do just about everything that could, but get you into the game even more.

I'm excited about this. I'm glad Nintendo isn't just making another "me-too" console. Make something fun, exciting, and different and it can work wonders.

Think about the DS. When it first came out, people were all up in arms about it. Like "OH NO, a stylus, two screens, WTF!?!". But, then you see games like N-Dogs, Electroplankton, and Kirby, and it all starts to make sense.

Just give this time, let some games be shown, see the thing in action. Then, decide what you think. To many people just want to always make these snap judgements. Give it time.

that's so awesome!!! i love this thing now. i think PS3 may be purchase #3 this generation. that has some really nice lookin features, the fps looks nice. but i wonder how thi fits in with TV size or whatever.

It's a remote.

You must be ****tin' me?
I know. :indiff:

At first I though how the hell are you meant to press the buttons on the bottom of the controler as well as the top comfortably. :grumpy:

And this idea with tilting the controler seems weird too. Just keep to the traditional way of button bashing FFS!

Boy I might have to consider a rvolution if it can put the fun back into games. Games used to be so much fun and they they started gettig bored. Now all I play is GT4 and San Andreas. Nintendo might have a hit on their hands.

I'm still of two minds about it, myself.

On the one hand, the controller is definitely "revolutionary", and will certainly change the way Nintendo games are played. It makes the system quite worth the cost just to have something so unique.

However, there's a flip side to it. The "remote control" half of the controller is not exactly ergonomically designed. And in order to point it directly at the screen, which many games will require, means you'll have to hold your wrist at a very sharp angle. And for some people, that's going to be a problem. I, for one, have problems with my right wrist, due to many years of working with computers.. I'll probably have full-bore carpal tunnel syndrome in a couple years if I don't start wearing a wrist brace when I work. So while I have no problems pointing my DVD remote for a moment, I can't do it continuously, like a game would require.

They really should have designed it more "phaser"-like.. with a curved, ergonomic handle, that could be held in a much more comfortable position, while keeping the actual "head" of the remote pointed at the screen. It would help those of us with wrist problems to play the games, and it would also keep those without wrist problems from developing them from extended gameplay.

To summarize, it's quite revolutionary, if not downright brilliant... but it's shape needs a drastic redesign.

So lets review shall we...

I saw.. fishing motions, gun motions, baseball batt swinging motions, sword fighting motions and well... retard motions ( since I can't explain what they were actually doing  ). Oddly no driving motions since that's what I was expecting from this so called "controller" :dopey:

This leads me to think a couple of things...

1. There's a reason there isn't a serious driving game for this console.
2. Nice idea trying to get the system to be a game station and entertainment center in one, but people... I'm sorry it ain't gonna happen.
3. I'd say that controller would have flown if it were an aftermarket add-on for certain games but no...

So, I really up hold my previous statement...

VIPFREAK
Wow, I can hear that thing crashing and burning already. :dopey:

Edit: I gotta see that once more for entertainment value. :Press play, Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out starts:

That's exactly what my coworker said, too. Luckily, my bad wrist is a left one. :dopey: I told him that, when his joints start hurting playing videogames is when he gotta hang it up for good. He didn't like that joke too much........

I think it looks really cool.......but I really do think its going to crash and burn just like everything else nintendo has done in recient years.....reasons why......read my pros and cons

CONS FIRST

1. That kind of controller will be only useful for some specific games.......how the hell are you going to play racing games or FPS games? In the press conference video they show how it can be usefully used for games such as tennis, fishing, mario party type stuff, some wierd cooking game! and a conducting game.....Yes its great for stuff like that but boy is it going to be annoying to use for mainstream games......

See it here.......

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/0...e_revcontroller_1_4.asx&tag=gs_hp_flashtop_bg

2. It going to take ages to get used to after using other types of controllers and once you are used to it your going to be screwed when you go over to your friends house to play there 360 or ps3!

3. Nintendo say they are opening up gaming to a new market which would have never attempted to play consoles.........but unfortunately they are going to alienate exsisting gamers......bold new approach!, they will loose more players than the gain new ones!.....big gamble......

4. Anything that uses motion can't be good......these things are notorisely inaccurate especially if nintendo are going to make it the basis of control in the game......you can imagine the frustration if you move your arm slightly to far or some glitch happens and the controller doesnt pick up the movement for a split second.......its game over!

5. Boy is your arm going to get tired.....I cannot see people holding this thing upright with there arms reached out for hours on end.....and then nintendo want you to walk around the room aswell!......its mad! With normal controllers you can sit down and let your thumbs do the work.....

6. Nintendo has clearly designed this controller with two things in mind, childrens birthday parties and there own in house games......other developers are going to find this a pain to program so that there games are controlable on revolution...this is going to severely limit the amount of titles released.....it may do well in japan but globally it might to fair so well...

Ofcource there are some plus points... :) PROS

1. Its bold and looks as revolutionary as the console.....the fact that you can link bits of it together give it the opportunity for lots of expansion....Its in keeping with nintendos bold designing and looks like some nice expensive dvd remote

2. Maybe once you get used to it it will give a better gaming experience.....sitting with a controller is not representative of what you might be playing on the screen.....The idea of this controller with an FPS maybe quite good as it would act like a light gun......now you can jump around the room shooting and screaming DIE DIE!!......more immersive gameplay eat you heart out

3. New market of gamers, Ok so it may not to be everyones liking but I know people that dont get how to control consoles at all......they just dont get how to use the buttons and stuff *cough girls cough* ;) ......this will give an easier gaming experience......

Conclusion

Anywho......I come back to my starting point......why eventhough it has pro's and con's it will crash and burn?........this is why.......

1. Nintendo always limit their market by creating bold pieces of kit that alienate a huge numbers of gamers...especially in a gloabl market...

2. Nintendo produce things that always seem to be less powerful than everyone else (in recient times)......why have a DS when you can have a PSP.....why have a revolution when you can have a 360 etc etc.....

Nintendo......be less bold and more mainstream......

Yes, this is exactly what I'm on about. A game is meant to be relaxing, not a workout. :dunce:

At least it fits the console's name.

I'm 50/50. 50 for doing something like that, and 50 for the complete uniqueness out of it.

No game is relaxing. Games tire the user out about 5 times as much as compared to watching tv and thats why younger kids will seem to be addicted to the games when they moan like babies when told to stop playing but really its a combination of them being mentally drained and so get moany and grumpy like a toddler.

About the "there's now way for a driving setup" deal. There is a possible setup for driving games, you just have to be creative.
