OK recently this has started to happen, and is driving me nuts (no pun intended). It might take 5 minutes to go between screens, another time it'll take 5 seconds. I'm pretty sure it's a hard disk problem from what I've read elsewhere.

I've done the following:

- Went into the PS3 recovery menu and did option 3 (something like verify integrity, meant to be a defrag / disk repair thing? not sure), did it several times and it hasn't really helped.

- Backed up my save data, formatted/wiped the hard disk (option 4 or 5 in recovery menu? i forget) and then reinstalled GT5 + save. Still get this stupid problem.

Any tips? PLEASE!

PS3 model and HD space left? (System Information in the settings tab)

Is it the same if you are connencted to the PSN or not?
Did you try it with no Internet connection?
Maybe its a network problem.

Maybe its a network problem.

You're probably right.

I also had issues with endless loading menus and was kicked of PSN. I'm still off PSN, but now the menus are loading again at normal speed.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll check my PS3 model / HD space tomorrow, I'm running 24 hour B-spec right now. It might be a network issue (though has only started happening recently, I've been connecting to the PSN since I bought the game), though actually when I went through the PS3 recovery menu it said that the hard disk was damaged and *attempted* to repair it.

If you do instal a new HDD i would suggest .. A SSD one they are faster.

^ SSD really shines with GT5's enormous list of small cache files.

try disconnecting from PSN. Every time I would download torrents or something on my computer it would take me 2-3mins every time I would try to go back to the GT life home screen.

I have this problem from time to time. It could even happen when I was returning to the main menu from getting a simple oil change.

I just assumed it was a network issue, not a hardware thing.

The network issue is the easiest to test. If not you're looking at bigger, more complicated issues.

Mines always run insanely slow, whether its online or offline
I did that pre cache install thing, but i still see that install flashing light in the corner of the screen sometimes, I have a 60gb with virtually no memory space left on it, thanks to games such as GRID, MGS4 and Fallout 3, this game seems to run slower than every other game i have, including PS2 games :ouch:

Same here except I have an 80GB with plenty of space. Game constantly just stays at loading screens or takes FOREVER to load things.

As far`as i know original PS3's are having trouble with GT5 albiet reading disc's ( I have the 60gb and mine froze in game play, i bought a slim for GT5 to save my 60gb) If yours is the original version this may be why.. When launched Bluray disc for PS3's were not as large as they are now storage wise. Kaz claims he has put as much on GT5 as the disc can hold. The blueray disc nowadays for the PS3 seems to be larger than when the PS3 was launched as such maybe the original PS3's lens cannot cope with reading such disc's ( they read them but struggle) This is only my opinion and assumption.

Yes they were. They have come in 25GB single layer and 50GB dual layer forms since day one. In fact, when it comes to Blu Ray movies, a large portion of them (and perhaps even the majority at this point) come on dual layer Blu Ray discs.

Blu Rays were also designed so that they could be expanded in layers in the future with minimal (if any) problems to older players.

Kaz claims he has put as much on GT5 as the disc can hold.
If Kaz really said that (and I do recall hearing something about it) then Kaz is full of crap. GT5 not only isn't even a dual layer Blu Ray game, but it doesn't even come close to using the entirety of the single layer disc that it does use.

Metal Gear Solid 4 (the first game to use a dual layer Blu Ray disc, and it actually did nearly fill it) was for a while a pack-in game with the CECHC model of PS3. Apart from very minor internal differences and the obvious chipset changes regarding BC, the CECHC and the original CECHA launch models were identical in construction. And that game didn't cause PS3 systems to commit suicide or anything of the sort.

I started having this problem with my 60GB phat PS3 so I changed the HDD to a 320 GB HDD. It was great the first few days, then it started to slow down again. After a week, it's back to the same mesmerizing "GT" logo hypnosis trick that PD is doing:nervous: It takes about 5 minutes from startup to GT Life page (clicking on all prompts immediately). Sometimes, even longer.

I read about the DMZ and port forwarding fix for wireless network setups and did it. I didn't see a difference, really.

So I'm still confused and dumbfounded about this whole thing. After doing all of the above, I tend to lean towards the slow servers theory. Now, does PSN have separate servers than PD? Is hard-wiring the PS3 to the router a possible fix?💡

It is.

I suffered from awful start times when on WI-FI. Wired the PS3 and loading times became normal.

In fact this IS being caused by the Playstation network. Disconnected and GT5 is running perfectly.

What is this fix to the wi-fi settings you guys are alluding to? Surely tweaking certain router settings would do the job, since the wi-fi internet speeds are quite high. My router is one storey above the PS3, so wired connection is impossible.

yup the slow loading times are a result of being connected to psn servers. when i am offline everything loads fine.

I really hope this gets fixed, it wasn't like this when I first bought the game! PD broke it :(

meaningful Bump

Also, 50% of the time that I try to connect to PSN it fails. I tried both opening ports & DNS in the network settings, but that's made no difference. And I can never play online "Error connecting to server" even though I'm connected to PSN.

This plus the 5 minute loading screens.

WTF IS GOING ON POLYPHONY?!?!

Definitely a network problem. I selected "internet disable" from the PS3 menu and the game worked normally; albeit slow...and disables seasonal events, online UCD, etc.
I guess the $47 320GB HDD upgrade was unnecessary after all. All I needed was a $10 100 foot ethernet cable to hard wire my PS3 to the router.
