Every day, thousands of hopefuls aspire to get to the Top Class Grand Tourer (TCGT) World Cup. Only 28 compete at that level each year, and only 16 ever get to race in the higher tier, The 600-GT class. The road there is hellish.

We will follow the path of Masaaki Inoue, starting at the end, in his first race.

Nurburgring- 5:20 A.M. 30° F. Severe Rainstorm. Wind 22 mph.

Pit Chief: Why are the officials going through with this?
Driver: Since when do the TCGTSB give a damn about driver safety? Nobody can see crap in this conditions!

green flag. The 8 drivers are driving on an almost frozen green hell. Nobody makes a reckless move in the first sector. And then all hell breaks loose. 2 drivers collide, with seemingly minor damage. And then a tire falls off of a car. There is an audible snap from a tree...

The driver of the NSX R600 Mk. II had crashed. This was the end... for Masaaki's father... in 1993.

Having almost no choice but to get out and assist, Masaaki was after all still green due to never have driven on the Ring, or in wet conditions. The frigid conditions made it perfect for catastrophic accidents.

Upon arriving at his father's burning car, of whom hadn't been wearing his safety belt properly, and as result had a basilar neck fracture, attempted to rescue him, but found it quite the impossibility.

Any hope of a rescue was fading quickly. About 10 minutes later help arrived, but it was all for nothing. There wasn't jack anyone could do, but to salvage the Mk. II.

The very next day, the race director had been arrested for manslaughter, but that was far from the end of this weekend.

Masaaki's daughter had been born at the exact moment his father died, starting a new chapter in this story. Perhaps, the 1993 season may not turn out to be as bad after all...
