Right hand drive in Alfa Mito/500 Abarth - Why?!

It would seem that Kaz not only believes that any car "not made in Japan" is inferior, but often will not go the extra step to make the cars accurate to their countries in several areas. One obviously is the side the wheel is on and you'll find some American race cars with the speedo in Kph.

I'm guessing the versions of the cars they had access to for scanning, recording etc were right hand drive.

...that seems like a rather large oversight, given that PD usually pride themselves on their in-game depictions of cars. o_O

It was the same for a couple of french cars in gt5... I'm very sad about that. I think it's just a question of money :(

When I went into cockpit view in my C-30, it had the steering wheel on the right side.
Why???? It is a Swedish car.

Are there more cars with the steering wheel on the right(wrong) side?

Folks.., sorry but Kaz doesn't have to scan the proper vehicle regarding it's steering wheel location. Their design software can easily flip this. You'd be surprised at what game developers can do with the programs they use.

In this case Kaz simply scans what he has available, but doesn't go the extra step to make the cars "region specific". PD has the ability to flip it, but it seems that resources are directed in other areas.

I'm assuming for some cars that are originally LHD cars, PD (being located in Japan) scanned a localized car which would be RHD.
In this case I would think this to be an issue mainly with premium cars. Are there any standard cars that have this problem?

I'm assuming they scanned a RHD Fiat 500 / Abarth 500. I honestly don't mind, I find RHD cars to be easier to drive on the raceway for some reason. I even briefly considered the possibility of importing here in Italy a RHD Mazda Roadster from the UK for a while, but then I realized how much bureaucracy would be involved.

It would be possible to make LHD cars starting from a scan of a RHD and viceversa (it isn't as easy as just flipping the model, but it isn't the most complicated thing either); having the possibility of choosing between a LHD and a RHD version would be, I guess, a very well-received feature that would also fit well within a Gran Turismo game.

Point is that it can be done and actually it's not as hard as some may think. It's not difficult coding for someone trained in the field.

The reason I say that is because unlike many who just comment based on assumption, I go to the source. I get to speak to someone who is a game developer all the time.

I have a younger sibling who is a game developer, has a degree in Animation, and works for a well known game company on the west coast (in the USA).

Once the 3D model is in the computer, their software allows them to easily mirror, reverse, flip ect. Kaz just simply won't take the extra few steps to do it. Not saying it's a deal breaker, it's just obviously not a big priority to him.

Simple, that's what he had available to him (in Japan).

I bet the Brera isn't sold in Japan so wherever he ended up scanning the car it most likely was in a market where LHD is the norm.

im pretty sure he just scanned the version of the car that is sold in japan so thats what happened

That only works if the LHD is a perfectly mirrored version of the RHD build. I can't think of a single car in real life that is...

As @EAGLE 5 said, it's just what they had access to. The way a car is modelled, they get a real version of the car and do all this stuff to get data about the shape so they can make it. The car they got was RHD meaning they modelled it as RHD.

As for me, any car that ends up in RHD when it's mean to be LHD is good for me, because I'm in New Zealand where the cars are all RHD. :sly:

 People are really scraping the barrell to find stuff wrong with this game. I thought the OP was joking at first to be honest, seriously just enjoy the game and if you must make a thread about things that are wrong then make it a real fault

That is actually weird, because they're only built in GB aint they?
It's a weird decision by PD I'll grant you that, but I think there are more left hand drive 0ne-77s and 12Cs than right.
