I know this is not GT5 related. But one of our own died today on the 'Ring at about 10:00GMT.

The driver of the UK Registered Renault Clio took a corner too fast in damp conditions and crashed into the barrier, flipping the vehicle several times and ejecting a passenger out of the window. The driver and one passenger were airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, the other passenger was pronounced dead at the scene with paramedics attended the accident site.

The passenger was a PSN and GT5 player. I don't personally know these people, nor do I remember playing against them. But I know somebody who had the passenger on his PSN list, I have been assured that both the passengers and the driver were not the type of people to commit reckless driving and that they left the spirited driving to the track, not the public roads.

I was asked to keep the deceased's identity a secret and so I instructed not to be told, the less you know the better sort of thing. You may have raced against this man, had a laugh with him during the race.

Remember, if like many GT5 fans you ever do decide to visit the Green Hell in person to experience it first... it got that nickname for a reason and people do die on it every year. This time though it claimed one of our own.

RIP to the fallen brother, and RIP to the motorcyclist who died at the 'carousel' corner the week before. Thought he deserved a mention just to highlight to anybody here with intentions to go there that in real life, you don;t just bouce off the barrier and carry on racing. :(

Rip. This is truly sad, what makes it worse is that, like you said, was one of our own. Even though this thread isn't GT5 related I think people shouldn't just overlook it. I hope this doesn't sound rude or anything but I think everyone here should do a "pay your respect" lap at the ring.

R.I.P. Maybe a Spot Race?

RIP indeed. Very, very sad & terrible event that happened... And perhaps a Spot Race should be started in honor of them, but I think it'll make me even sadder when it does..

RIP. Man, when I read it was a Clio on the ring I got really scared that it was a friend of mine... He has a new clio and was going to take it to the ring... But nevertheless... Very sad...

I hope his family has all the support they need. Thoughts to them as well. I'll be doing a parade lap in total silence for them.

OP: I don't think this is off-topic, it brings reality to a simulation that acts like a fantasy. I know I aspire to go there, but it should give everyone pause as a reminder, like you said.

Oh man, always though news when someone dies doing something we all love doing. I've raced the Ring several times in RL and it's some of those damn kurbs that are so thick and unforgiving. I can see how you could easily get lifted and start rolling at a really high speed.

R.I.P. and my condolences to this mans loved ones.

RIP

Police reports say flipped at Wipperman. Scary thought, high speed entry, slippy kerbs and a downhill compression that pummels the suspension making steering harder if taken too aggressively.

Tragic thought is if they were thrown from the car, hope it was seatbelt or seat failure and not because they weren't wearing a seatbelt.

:guilty:

Yea, it looks like a Renault Clio:

Picture is from the local news: Nurburgring Nordschleife calls fatalities among tourists ride

And to get a impression of the track conditions on the 4th/Sep, here's a video:

Notice the youtube description of the clip: "5th lap of the day, last one, some rain disturbed everything and crashes started to pile up everyhwere...".
So I guess the rain was the main problem here. :guilty:

R.I.P. mate. :indiff:
