Rockstar Games is pleased to announce a partnership with Team Bondi Pty Ltd to publish the ground-breaking next generation crime thriller L.A. Noire. Developed by Team Bondi, a new Australian based studio founded by Brendan McNamara, of The Getaway, L.A Noire is an interactive detective story set in the classic noir period of the late 1940's.

L.A. Noire blends action, detection and complex storytelling and draws players into an open-ended challenge to solve a series of gruesome murders. Set in a perfectly recreated Los Angeles before freeways, with a post-war backdrop of corruption, drugs and jazz, L.A. Noire will truly blend cinema and gaming.

I always wondered what happened to the special relationship with Sony and Rockstar on this one, at one point Team Bondi said it was being co developed with Sony Computer Entertainment so I don't know what fell apart.

Surely if there are some IP or assets that Sony created for this game Rockstar would have had to buy it back off them to now allow the game to be multi platform. In a way its a shame because the game will now be limited by DVD space requirements. At least Sony still has a Rockstar exclusive in the pipeline (Agent).

The new trailer doesn't look as graphically nice as the original debut one :sly:

The debut one was built on a high end CGI engine from an unknown outsourced company to set the game's mood for the gamers. Phelps, the main character, had been developed, but other than that, the debut trailer isn't an indication of anything else.

I have to disagree in disbelief with you, though. The only thing you noticed was that the debut trailer was better? This thing, entirely in-game footage, not only displays top notch graphics, but also the best voice acting and character animation ever seen in a game, most likely.

I don't doubt the production values but I'm sorry I have to disagree with you on the visuals, it looks just like the GTA IV & Red Dead Redemption engine and the graphics look no better or worse than those games. Its certainly not top notch or the best character animation ever seen in a game.

Sure those games look good but what I am saying is that they have not moved anything forward from a visual standpoint with this title. Its a bit like how Call Of Duty has looked relatively the same since COD4.

As for the debut trailer I know it was CGI, but it was also CGI in 2004 and looking at some games today I would say that level of visual detail has been surpassed in game. Sure this new stuff looks good but I would say its not as smooth and fluid as the original trailer, which everyone including Rockstar has seemed to have forgotten existed.

Woah, that looks fantastic!

I find the character animations to look slightly better than GTAIV, but in general the trailer looks absolutely fantastic in my eyes! I'm not such a huge fan of that time-space, but if my laptop can handle this, which it should, I'm definitely getting this! 👍

Sorry to break it to you, but consoles only, buddy.

The animations are amazing but the graphics are OK. They're not the best but it's good enough. Definitely better than Mafia 2 anyway.

👍

Looking ten times better then their last makings, just look at shadows and details modelled instead of textured!!

Coming Soon... Wow

Jebus, that's the worst looking revolver I've ever seen in a game! Non-fluted cylinder with how many shots!? Ultra-thin barrel! And the chambers don't seem to line up with the barrel!

Absolutely pathetic!

euhm, i think yr looking at it.

Wasn't Read Dead a bit new GTA too?

Yes, based on an older cowboy game but still, gta engine and sandbox... is a new GTA in one way, not?

Yes, true, but have you seen the revolvers in Red Dead and GTA4,

a bit the same, only modelled even more boxy.
So it's a big step forward

Looks good. Is there any word whether this will be another open world free roam game like Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption? Rockstar is unrivalled when it comes to that genre so I hope they do whatever they can to innovate it.

This game is published by Rockstar, but isn't at all developed by any of their studios. It's being done by Team Bondi.

The game has to include a noir et blanc filter! It should have been in B&W only, to set the real hardboiled vibe, especially as they're setting it in that time.

Yeah but it will use all of the Rockstar game assets and engine which has been used since table tennis. For all intensive purposes Team Bondi is one of their studios for this project and might even become 'Rockstar Australia' if it does well.

As a huge film noir aficionado and collector, I have to disagree. Most film noir films were made from the 50's to the 60's and like most films from that era were B&W not for style, but because of the high cost of color film.

There are in fact many great film noirs shot in color, most notably the oscar winning films like Chinatown and LA Confidential, which is likely the main inspiration for this game.

In fact, one of the most famous film noirs is not only in color but is also a very famous science fiction film, Blade Runner.

I can't wait for this game. It's been in development for a long time now, and is rumored to have even more gameplay and content than GTA IV.

For those that like film noir, if you haven't checked it out yet, I strongly recommend the game Heavy Rain. 👍

Developed by Rockstar Games. This looks really good. Anyone getting it?

It does look PHENOMENAL considering the hardware limitations of current-gen technology, but I'm not gonna buy it, as I do not buy any games, except GT. Just watched the video on youtube and yeah as already said, very very good looking, also inovating, nice.

Good to see you here. I think I had created a thread about the game already, but it's nice to see some more exposure.

Can't wait for May! This is going to push Dirt3 aside, so it better be good.

Day one purchase for me.

Looks like another Rockstar classic in the making.

Me like.
But i hate that R* refuses PC version.
Well maybe it is better, because GTA4 was a bugfest on PC.

Dammit, I promised myself I would play only GT5 in 2011. ;) Already got TDU2, with Killzone 3 on my wish list as well as LA Noire, Shift 2 and Duke Nukem Forever.

This game is looking really good. 👍
