Does anybody know if there are plans to fix the Daytona road course and add the Rolex 24 at Daytona as an endurance race? The Daytona road course was the first track I drove when I got the game and I noticed several mistakes right away. First off, what's with the barrier on turn 1? It jarts out and even the computer drivers crash into it and wreck. In real life there is PLENTY of run off room there as you transition from the banking to the flat and it is a corner taken under hard braking. Infact it is regarded by most of the Grand-Am drivers as the hardest corner in all the series. Know I know it wouldn't be the easiest for the developers to code it so that there is no barriers and just cones like in real life, but all I'm asking for realistic run off room. Just use one barrier closer to where you exit the infield for the banking. I also noticed right away that they totally messed up the bus stop chicane on the back stretch. They infact have us running the longer bus stop like moto gp bikes run. Sports cars use the shorter version of the chicane. The barrier in the bus stop is also unrealistic as there isn't a barrier in real life, but just cones. Again, I know it isn't the easiest to program for this to keep guy from cutting course, So they should just add a single barrier, perhaps similiar to what they do at De La Sarthe. Now I don't remember off the top of my head for sure, but when you get driven down pit road, it also doesn't make you take the acesses road that is taken These things bugged me right away but I started getting use to them. However, watching this years Rolex 24 reminded me how poor this was. Also did anybody else notice the lack of the ferris wheel that is famous in many Rolex 24 pictures all lit up at night.

Now to the Rolex 24. I have noticed in car discriptions such as the Mazda Furai that this famous race was referenced to. Yet it isn't on the game? When you think of 24 hour enduros you think of Daytona and LeMans, not Nurenburg. Why isn't LeMans the last enduro you unlock anyways? Never mind, that's a different issue. But the Rolex 24 should be added. To do this, I would like to see the time and weather change that LeMans and Nurenburg have and the other errors I pointed out as well. Daytona Prototype race cars would be nice, but not totally necessary to my satisfaction. Never the less, I would feel total bliss if they were added.

Totally unrelated but does anybody know some where online I can watch the Rolex 24 online during the part Speed doesn't show it? I'm watching right now and am going to do the 24 hours:)

Do you agree or disagree with any of my points? Please respond and add any of your opinions.

I thought of this when I was watching part of the Rolex 24 a couple of hours ago. I'm not sure i'd want to do a whole 24 hour race at Daytona though, but I wouldn't mind one that was 5 or 6 hours long, maybe even just a night race. The idea of having Daytona Prototype Race Cars isn't bad either.

Also, it's Nurburg, not Nurenburg :)

That did show it 24 hours in 2001 and I think a couple other years. 14 hours of coverage this year though, a decline from last years 16 hours. I was they streamed the other hours on their web site but I couldn't find it. I've been scowering the web to find the other hours even in web cam form, but can't find. The 01 Ganassii car is leading.

And I thought it looked funny when I typed Nurburg

I wouldn't like drivig all 24 hours either. They need to add saving progress in endurance races, which I heard try are working on. Plus, I want stints to drive with me co-drivers

I was watching this only a couple of hours ago and couldnt believe all the differences like how smooth turn 1 is and how the "bus stop" chicanes are a lot larger than the ones in GT5.

I'm DVR'ing all the coverage on Speed HD.. (I have a 1000GB external eSATA HD hooked up to my SA8300HD DVR). With 1,150 GB, or 1.15TB, I'll have plenty of room. I'll definitely look for all those inconsistencies.

Are you positive the way GT5 has it now wasn't closer to being correct at any time in the past 5 years or so? I can't remember those detailed, but have they changed up and tweaked the road course at all lately in real life? Maybe at one time it was something like GT5 has it? Just giving them the benefit of the doubt...

Not to go totally off-topic, but how do you like the eSATA HDD setup with the 8300HD DVR? I'd heard they don't record to the external drive until the internal is completely full (at least the TimeWarner ones). I'd hook up an external in a heartbeat if I had some control over what when where.

..and i still think of 12 Hours of Sebring and the Petite Le Mans before Nurburg.
Well, I think it depends which continent you're living on. The whole of Europe thinks of Le Mans, Nürburg and Spa, of course. So do the Japanese. You remember, there's a Nissan Skyline with the abbreviation "Nür" on it? The decision to put Nürburg on No1 surely is connected with Kazunori's participation there - and it's the most beautiful and demanding track on da planet, isn't it?

And I think of those two before I think of Daytona. Mainly because of sanctioning bodies.

Problem with Daytona 24hrs is DMG, who runs an entirely different rule book from ACO and FIA (DMG has done everything possible to ruin AMA Superbikes and road course motorcycle racing in the U.S.).

Guy has a point about Lemans should be #1, since it is the pinnacle of endurance sports car racing.

However, an endurance race would fit the profile at Daytona Infield. Options for using either chicane would be nice, as well.

It (both internal and external) acts as one giant HD, the one with most FREE space is used, always. It's all copy protected and encrypted. Only works with one DVR. Cannot transfer data ever, not even to other DVR.

Dang. I was hoping to find an easier/better way to keep/record favorite shows/series. Now I have to burn them to DVD, but the quality sucks (480p) compared to HDTV, so it's really not worth it.

Thanks for the info, though - we now return you to your regularly-scheduled thread...

Even then, LeMans over Nurburg. I was actually watching a show yesterday and Scott Pruet, who has ran Daytona and LeMans, said Daytona was way more demanding and the more hours of darkness are a factor

I well think they can do away with the 4 hour endurance roadster racein favor of the 12 hours of Sebring. The nice thibg about 24 hours of Daytona is that it is before any racing leagues get under way so nobody has any previous obligations to drive somewhere that week so it truely is a great mixing pot of anybody who is anybody across the slate of American auto racing

I think the reason the track differs from the one in the game is because they just rebuilt and paved the entire course. I just saw a little feature they did about the rebuild on Speed.

The frack layout is the same as last year, all that changed is the banks are repaved. But the shorter chicane you see has been the same for years and years and there still has been that giant over run area at the entry of one. You probably have also seen many cars spin and spin through the inside of that bus stop, we should get to do that in the game to. They could also have no chicane and infield section barrier to keep you off the oval if they do something like the wall penalties in rally events. If you don't take the infield part you must stop for 1:15 perhaps and if you mis the bus stop you must come to a complete stop. If you don't your lap is disaloud

The major differences between the GT5 and the version being raced on today is the shorter bus stop chicane, the repaving and the removal of walls to prevent corner cutting. Since there is a crude penalty system that was used more frequently in GT5 Prologue, why not remove the walls via a patch and use the penalty system if the corner is cut, which would be most realistic.

Thatis a great point and totally viable to do. And I do thin that the bus stop is the biggest lay out deal. We no doubt need the short bus stop ran in real life.

The repaving and the removal of walls could probably be done if we had open source code to GT5, but since we don't, only PD can provide that for us. It would probably be harder to map out the penalty areas unless given PD instructions.

Just under 2 hours left in the Rolex 24 who you guys got? We got the 02, 9, 23, and 01 in serious contention

I got them all with an even chance, and I'm pretty good at pick a horse at a time like this, but it's almost too close to call. I would but less on Scott Pruett though, but he is comeing, If Montoya takes the last stint in the 02 then they will win.

If the 02 wins, Jamie McMurray will become the 3rd driver all time to win both the Rolex 24 and the Daytona 500, joining A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti.

That is true.

Dang, the Flying Lizard just caught fire. Guess it was really a dragon, lol.

I was just thinking, PD could probably do a 24 HR race with DP-esque cars on Daytona without adding new cars to the game.

Both Peugeot 908's
Peugeot 905
Mazda 787B
Toyota Minolta
Toyota GT-One
Bentley Speed 8
Sauber C9
Jaguar XJ9
Nissan R89
Nissan R92
That would be 11. Putting in 5 or 6 cars for a 2nd class works well too.
Corvette C5R
Nissan R390 GT1
Panoz Esperante

I ran out of cars at 14.
