Has anyone seen the trailer for Rome: Total War? It looks exactly like LOTR! At first I thought it was the genre, but then they used ladders as in the second LOTR movie. Then they used Seige Towers, just as in the third one. Then, I though it was a coincidence and maybe Tolkein got the idea from ancient seige towers. But then, elephants came in, trampling the troops. Total spoof of LOTR: Return of the King and the game LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth.

wrong buddy. The Total War series has strived for historical accuracy as much as possible. Those troops and units and ladders you were seeing in the game actually existed in the times of ancient rome. Those units are as close to the real ones as they could make. In fact, the first Total War game came out well before the movies for the LOTR Trilogy even began production.

Those battles tolkien created were obviously trying for some form of accuracy so he had to go with modifying real troops and real siege weaponry from the ages.

You should learn a bit o history buddy :)

Sorry, I figured that. Roman history bores me. Even last night, I walked out of King Arthur to go see Anchorman. The first 40 minutes of KA were boring...
