"Fernando and the Renault team did a great job in 2005. They brought a good package which was reliable for the first race and did the job while our drivers psychologically overreacted to problems at the first round of the world championships and definitely didn't respond to the pressure."

💡 :dunce: Could anyone go get this guy a clue?... what a douchebag. Too much booze during the holidays, perhaps. I don't particularily like Jean Todt, or Frank Williams, but at least they'd never piss on their drivers after losing a championship on reliability issues. 👎

And yet he may just enjoy having the two best drivers of F1 in 2007. :banghead:

Ron dennis is just upset because Fernando and Flavio have hair.

edit: Regardless, I think McLaren must really be cleaning house now. Hahaha. Don't expect Kimi or Juan to stick around.

Yeah, throwing dirt like that around wont make anyone happy. Maybe Ilmor gave Ron a "gift" to not say anything bad about the engines...

Both drivers did make significant errors in qualifying whihc subsequently prevented them from winning races... McLaren lost the championships because they did not start out fast enough, they lost a lot through engine failures, and their drivers did make mistakes.

Anyone who thinks Ron Dennis is an idiot is an idiot themselves. Vodafone and the current World Champion? He's the mega cat-burgler.

Well, that's a bit misleading on the part of PlanetF1 et al. The full quote from The Guardian is as follows:
Ron Dennis
Fernando and the Renault team did a great job in 2005. They brought a good package which was reliable for the first race and did the job while our drivers psychologically overreacted to problems at the first round of the world championships and definitely didn't respond to the pressure. It was all a bit frustrating for us because in most seasons 10 race wins would have been good enough to clinch the world championship quite early in the season. The trouble was this time there was no other team taking points off Fernando and Renault when our cars failed to finish.
So, he did acknowledge the reliability problems in a roundabout way. I think the first part is mostly about the Australian Grand Prix and the results there. Afterall they were 1st and 3rd in the last practice session, but only managed 6th and 8th in the race. He seems to feel the misfortune they had in qualifying threw them off.

Thanks Azhur, they should have included the whole thing, it shows things a bit in a different light. That's bad editing, I'll make sure to check original sources in the future. :indiff:

I don't think Ron Dennis is an idiot, I thought he was being an ass for no good reason, especially regarding Kimi. He lost so much more points due to reliability issues than he did because of driving errors, and he did miracles to make up for both in many races. Ron is right about Alonso's consistency being amazing, but had they switched places for last season, I'm quite sure the WDC would still be Renault's. Leashing out at Kimi for the first half of the season would have been pointless and quite stupid from anyone at McLaren.

And again, Vodafone and Alonso might be great catches, but I'm still curious of the effects of Adrian Newey leaving. Up to this year, the title has been a ball game between Newey and... Schumacher for quite a while.

Carl.

Everyone in Formula 1 is, at times, an ass for no good reason. Somehow it sustains the sport.
