Roof Rack Options?

Need a little help here. I recently bought a kayak from a friend of mine. He lives like 2 feet from the beach so it stays at him right now. I would like to be able to transport it to other beaches across the island without having to use my other friends pickup truck. Is it possible to rig up some sort of roof rack system for my car? ('81 Datsun 210)

Here's a pic of my car if it helps any.


I've seen one car like mine with roof racks on it. Anyone have idea what sort of system this is and where I can get it from?

Ask a reputable outdoor shop. Any good shop'll help you figure out which rack will fit your car, and your kayak. My brother's bike shop does custom fitments.

I think this is the first time I've seen someone want a roof rack for something other than putting it on a VAG model and posing

I think the two major brands you want to look at are Thule and Yakima.

Jim basically covered all that needs to be said. Their might have been an OEM roof rack for the 510, but attempting to track one down wouldn't be worth the effort even if there was.

I know a dude who goes to school with me who occasionally has a Yakima roof rack on his Mustang. He puts his bike on it.
